WHEN DISPAIR grows in me, I wake in the night and lie in the garden. I can hear the gentle trickle of water, the calm breeze rustling the leaves. I can feel the moon shining its light down on me, making me feel at peace with everything. I go outside to be close to nature, where I should be.
Being a wolfblood, it's difficult to grasp moments of peace. With your ears being able to hear everything within a fifty metre distance of you and your eyes being able to see even the tiniest speck of dust, it was difficult to be in a trance of pure tranquility.
I knew that every wolfblood had experienced this since the day they were born, but nothing could prepare them for their first transformation.
It's a feeling like no other. Your heart pounding in your chest, your senses heightened, your wolf begging to set itself free from the iron bars of its human cage.
That's what made me so worried about Maddy.
She is transforming tomorrow night and I knew all too well that nothing in the world could prepare her for it.
I breathe out a gentle sigh and sit up, my legs stretched out in front of me. I run my fingers through the blades of grass beneath me, feeling every edge of every emerald blade. I close my eyes and breathe in the cool night air, absorbing the light of the moon. It was so close to being full. It made my wolf want to jump out of my chest.
I hear the door click open behind me. I turn to see Maddy wrapped in her dressing gown, obviously surprised to see me sitting outside in nothing more than a black jumper and some bed shorts.
I smile and pat the patch of grass beside me, inviting her to sit, "I couldn't sleep the night before my first transformation either."
She sat cross legged beside me and glanced up at the moon, the bright light reflecting in her dark eyes, "I feel like I'm about to explode."
I chuckled softly, remembering how I had said the same thing, "Once you transform... its amazing. Like all of your worries and anxieties have been set free. You're truly at one with yourself for the first time ever."
She chewed her lip, a nervous habit of hers. I could understand why she was nervous. Its such an intense feeling and she couldn't even begin to imagine just how intense. I held her hand, "You don't have to be afraid. You'll be right here, with us."
She rested her head on my shoulder and I rested my head on top of hers. We both looked up at the shining moon, both lost in thought of what tomorrow night would bring.

Luckily for us, we didn't have to suffer a day of boring lessons as our year group was going on a field trip for history. We were going to the Isle of Lindisfarne which had an old castle from the mid 1500s. I think we were all glad to get out of the stuffiness of the classroom for a day, especially me, Maddy and Rhydian.
