The three of them finally made it back to the farmhouse. They zipped around the field and jogged down to the shed where Maddy was ready and waiting. They greeted her with hello's and small waves. After a short chat, the brunette opened the door to the shed and pointed inside, "The spade's over there - in the corner."
Her phone bleeped and she fetched it out of her pocket.
Jana quickly walked in the direction of Maddy's point. Lia and Rhydian stepped forward to grab a couple of spades themselves, but Maddy put her arm out, stopping them before they could step one foot inside the shed. Lia turned to her in confusion, "What are you-"
Before she could finish the question, the brunette pulled the door shut and turned the lock, placing an old chair under the door handle for good measure. Jana shouted from inside, "What are you doing?" she cried out in anguish, instantly banging her fists against the door. Maddy grabbed Lia and Rhydian by the arm before they could question her actions, pulling them away from the shed with Jana still trapped inside. She lifted her phone as they walked, "It's Shannon," she called out, "She says that the bones are almost packed."
"Quick question," Rhydian called out, grabbing Lia's hand to help her keep up with Maddy's fast-paced walk back into the woods, "Are you off your nut?"
Maddy spun around with a harsh sigh, "We can't risk her losing it!" she exclaimed, gesturing towards the shed which was now so tiny in the distance, "Tom and Shannon are up there. If she finds out they know..." she trailed off, not wanting to finish the sentence. She looked down at the pair, waiting for an answer. Rhydian and Lia looked at one another before turning back to her, nodding reluctantly. She was right, there was no way Jana wouldn't find out about Tom and Shannon knowing the secret. They were playing major roles in this plan.
The three of them ran back into the woods towards the site, stopping and crouching down at the edge of the woodland so that they had a perfect view of the tent. They watched for at least ten minutes, then they spotted Tom and Shannon leaving the tent. Rhydian pointed toward them, "They're on their own."
Maddy nudged the two of them, "Come on."
They bee-lined towards the doctor's car parked quite a distance away from the tent. Thankfully their two friends spotted them and met them behind the vehicle. Shannon let out a sigh once in hearing range, "We almost had the bones out and then Jeffries rocked up!"
Lia gave Shannon a half smile and assured the pair that it was okay and they were thankful for their efforts. The five of them spied the doctor, her assistant and Jeffries through the car windows, watching them talk and pack the bones into blue boxes.
"What are you losers doing here?" A voice called out. Jimi.
Lia rolled her eyes as the group turned around. The urge to roll her eyes again grew when she noticed he was not alone - Liam and Sam followed close behind him. Maddy stepped forward, her arms crossed over her chest, "What are you doing here?" she shot back.
"Uh, it's my dad's field." Liam said matter-of-factly, "Anyway, we came to show Dr Whitewood these." he explained, holding up a small wooden box that none of them got a good enough look at even to make a guess as to what it contained. He called out to the doctor as he came out from behind the car. His two mates followed, and the group collectively decided in silence to follow too. Not a second later the doctor and their teacher exited the tent and approached the group of students.
"What are you lot doing up here?" Jeffries exclaimed, holding his arms out as if he were fed up with seeing them, which Lia guessed he probably was.
Ignoring his question, Liam stepped forward, "Check it out!" he said, holding up the mysterious box, "I found them in my attic." He opened the box, offering it to Dr Whitewood. Lia stood on her toes and began to peer over, but she didn't need to, because only a few seconds later the doctor was holding up a small, silver ball.
