It had been a couple of weeks since Jana's arrival, and she was fitting in and adjusting to life among humans better than Lia and the others could have hoped for. She made quirky comments in class, the teachers found her fascinating in the best way, and she avoided the K's and other kids who got on her nerves at all costs. She still got angry, but not as easily as before, which was a massive improvement. If she did get wound up, she would calm herself before any of her wolfblood features could appear.
Lia and Rhydian were closer than ever and were embracing the peace and being able to see each other every day. They were the first to greet each other each morning, and that never failed to bring a smile to their faces.
The pair of them and Maddy were waiting in the corridor for Jana. Classes had not yet begun, so they still had a few minutes to get to form. Jana walked out into the corridor, a wide grin on her face, "School is the best!"
The three of them pushed off the wall to walk with her. Maddy walked by her side as they headed to form, "Really?" she asked the girl, raising an eyebrow at her excitement. Lia and Rhydian shared a smile as Jana continued, "Yeah! I am loving flushing toilets."
Lia giggled at that, and Rhydian shook his head, "Yeah, it doesn't get much more exciting than that." He told her sarcastically, but Jana didn't catch on to the sarcasm. The four of them walked into the classroom, where most of their class already were, which was strange as most of them hung around the corridors until the bell. Frowning, the group walked into the centre of the room where a majority of them were gathered. As they got closer they saw that their classmates were surrounding Liam, who sat atop his desk with a giddy smile. Lia peered over Maddy's shoulder, and caught the end of Liam's sentence, "...my ancestor was a werewolf hunter!"
A few students snorted at his excitement over something so seemingly absurd, and he rolled his eyes, snatching his phone back from Jimi, "Laugh all you want, but my dad knows the family history! And, he's called in a scientist to prove it."
"What's this?" Lia piped up, trying to prevent her voice from wavering with anxiety.
Kay laughed, "Liam reckons his dad ploughed up a werewolf skeleton this morning."
Liam rolled his eyes once again, "I don't reckon. It's true." he insisted, then turned his phone to show Lia and the group. Her lips parted, her breath catching in her throat. The picture on the screen showed a skull and a few bones, but the skull was obviously one of a canine, but not any canine known nowadays. The strange shape of its skull made it look similar to a dog's head shape, but it wasn't. It was a wolfblood skull, there was no doubt about it.
"This is a werewolf skeleton. And my ancestor killed it!" Liam grinned.
Jana's eyes widened, and she turned to look at her three friends. All they could do was stare blankly in pure shock. Jana growled lowly, storming out of the room before she lost control. Rhydian cleared his throat, forcing out a laugh, "Come on, Liam. That looks more like a dog's skull. Or a badger's..."
He trailed off quietly, knowing that the skull didn't even look remotely similar to a badger's. Lia gave him a silent glare before adding, "Yeah. Some sort of canine with a mutation or something."
Maddy nodded, but Liam shook his head, smiling down at his phone. His smile was so wide, anyone would have thought he'd struck gold in the lottery or something. Lia chewed her lip, walking over to Tom and Shannon who sat at the back of the room, closely followed by Maddy and Rhydian. Tom rubbed the redhead's shoulder to comfort her, "Look, it'll be alright, yeah? In a couple of weeks, everyone will have forgotten about this."
She hummed in response, nodding, but anxiety was eating her up. A scientist was going to examine it. She highly doubted that a scientist had any belief in mythical creatures, and could only hope that the scientist wouldn't find anything to point their beliefs in that direction.
