I arrive at my front door. I unlocked it and walked in. I set the keys down in the little bowl by the door and took off my coat. I put it on the hook. I then walked into the living room. Sage was sitting there by the counter with dinner. It was our favorite Chinese food.  I smiled at the sight and she smiled right back at me. She looked at the food and back at me. She said "well I thought we deserve a little treat for what we have gone through." I smiled and said "yeah I agree, thank you" I sat down next to her and she slid over my box of food. I opened it and the smell made me close my eyes. It smells so good. The perfect mix of salty and sweet. The food still had steam floating off it.
We ate in silence and it was peaceful. Neither of us was asking each other questions or obviously worrying about the window getting bashed in or the door getting kicked in. We ate pretty quickly in my opinion and then I threw away our food. I yawned and Sage jumped on the bed and patted it. I rolled my eyes and said "let me take a shower first" Sage rolled over and faced the wall and I rolled my eyes.
I walked into the bathroom and looked in the mirror. I had completely forgotten about my face. The way the cuts and bruises made me look sick and miserable. My eyebrow seemed to sag a little more than I remembered and my lip had a nice red line through it that lifted a bit. It seemed like I had a small snarl permanently. I decided it was not the smartest idea to be dwelling on my features because then it's just going to downward spiral into me judging myself. Which is never a good thing.
I stepped into the shower and the warm water seemed to put me in a meditative state. It has been a long time since I have had a shower. The way the water felt when it hit my back and how it felt to dig my fingers through my hair. How good it felt to massage my scalp. The warmth felt amazing and I felt like I could fall asleep again. Yet I knew I could not stay here forever. This bliss was temporary and I needed to get out.
The cold air made my skin get goosebumps and could not help but shiver a bit. I got dressed quickly and put my hair up in a ponytail. My shirt stuck to me which is always an interesting sensation and it always made me feel slightly claustrophobic. I left the bathroom and walked out to the living room. Sage was softly snoring and I decided to take a moment to look out the window. I opened the curtains and made sure no one around was looking at me. It was dark but there was enough light that you could see a shadow if there was one.
Something I will never forget is how it felt to be in that forest. The way the cold air felt, how the wind sounded through the trees. Not only that but how the stars twinkled and dances together in rhythm. It was something you would only see in movies and things you can only dream of. Here there is only fake wind that is stale and sometimes too much. The trees are metal and the grass is plastic. Yeah it's perfect but the imperfection I found in the forest is something that I will always crave to have again. The way the cool real grass felt under my foot and how those bugs lit my path. It was magical. I want to go back there. I want to know if it was something I actually experienced or if it was all a lie. Just like this whole place is. I looked up at the sky to see only darkness and a couple flashes of lights. Yet I knew that was engineering and not stars.
Sage stirred away and saw me looking out the window. She stretched so she could wake up more and said "what's wrong" Yet the way she said it was just a mumbled mess. I chuckled and said "it's nothing just go back to sleep" She glared at me and lifted up the covers. I rolled my eyes and decided to get into the bed. I was on my side and she rolled over to she was facing my back and she whispered "are you sure you don't wanna talk about it" I took a deep breath and said "yeah its nothing to worry about" She leaned her forehead on the middle of my back and I heard her softly snoring and I could not help but smile.
Since I slept most of the day at work I really was not that tired. I could sleep but my mind was still very active. It was like a circus up there. I still remember the one thing that was chasing me in the woods. I wonder if it really was something or if I was hallucinating because it disappeared. Yet it is very possible that it could have been one of the cyborgs. That does not explain why they did not capture me in the woods then. They are a lot faster than me so it would've been very easy if they wanted to. I have to go back there and find out.
