Chapter 31

October 1st, 4052
    Jane looked over at me and I was caught staring. I looked away in embarrassment and then looked back at her. She smiled and said "wanna go on a field trip" I smiled and Sage looked up over my shoulder at Jane. I got up and Jane drank the rest of her coffee. Bert looked at Sage and then both me and Jane, then he said "well I best get on home. Check on things you know" Sage groaned and then put her face in the pillow. I giggled and looked back at her dramatic actions. She just laid there and her dad started walking to the door. I walked behind Jane and followed him to the door. We heard Sage call out "wait" she ran over and hugged her dad and then me. I was startled so I did not actually hug her back truly and it was only a few seconds. She walked back to the bed and jumped in it. We all walked out the door and softly closed it behind us. Jane and Bert walked in front of me.
We headed towards the pet shop. There were a lot of clean up crews fixing the roads and park. My building was tilting. The hundred stories were a little too much to be able to handle the wind. There were more people outside than I have ever seen and a lot of protesters on the corner in front of us. They were a block away from the shop. We reached the front door of the shop and Jane and Bert looked at each other. There was hesitation but Jane leaped in for a hug. They hugged for a few seconds before separating and Bert ran his hand through his hair. He had a smug little smile on his face. Jane said " be safe out there" He nodded his head and went on his way. She watched him walk away for a good minute. I cleared my throat and she snapped out of it. She opened the door and we walked in. The room wreaked and the lights slowly flickered till they turned on. The room was very dusty and needed to be aired out. We could not open the door yet because we had no clue if anything had escaped yet or not.
Jane first headed to the back of the room. She walked down the middle and checked the aquatic life we had. The tanks were a little covered in algae but for the most part it was pretty clean. They were all alive and most of them are just algae eaters anyways. I went to the left where the reptiles were. The snake looked up very quickly and the ten foot wide glass seemed to be a little crowded. He looked at me and instantly got close to the glass. His breath fogged up the glass a bit. His white eyes seemed to see me as his net meal which made me gulp in fear. I jumped when I heard a bang on the glass behind me. Our lizard we had jumped at the glass and was scratching at it begging for food. He was a lot smaller than our snake but still four feet long with three inch razor teeth. Double rowed. I could hear the breathing behind me which made my hairs stand on end. I turn back around to see him towering over me. I took a deep breath and walked to the back room. Jane was getting some pellets and I said "the lizard wants me for breakfast" she giggled and said "yeah Stan loves his food" I stopped and looked at her "he had a name this whole time" she smirked and said "nope I just made it up right now" I smiled and said "well the snakes name is Derek now" we both laughed. I grabbed some grubs for Stan and walked over to his tank. He licked the glass. I opened the top very slightly and put it in. He ate it so fast I was worried he was going to choke. I turned back around to Derek still staring at me, watching I said "im working on it" he must have understood because he lowered his head to my level. I wiped my eyes and just walked away. I went in and grabbed a medium sized rodent and walked back to his tank. He saw it and his mouth opened a little bit in excitement which was kind of cute. I unlocked the door which was a regular sized door but just glass. I looked at him and said "you stay right there" he closed his mouth and backed up a bit. I threw it in and he waited till I closed the door. I nodded my head at him and he ate it.
I walked over to see Jane feeding the right side which was rodents and other small creatures. I walked over and asked "have you counted them to see if they are all accounted for" She did not answer me right away as she perfectly measured the amount of food for each. Then she slowly said "yup" I then decided to go open the front door and let it air out.
Then dread hit me hard. Fear snuck up behind me and suddenly I could not breathe. The remembrance that I am still a wanted person by cyborgs washed over me like a natural disaster and I ran to the back of the room. I closed the door and started to panic. Have they already seen me? Do they know? Jane knocked on the door and said "can I come in" I opened the door and said "I just remembered that people are looking for my head right now so uh" Jane's eyes widened as she remembered too. She said "I will go check and see if anyone is there" She closed the door and locked it. So I was officially trapped there.
Then I heard a deep voice say "hello"
