chapter #5

Entry 5 september 13th 4052, Ember Rose.

* beep * beep *beep
I am going to throw that alarm clock at the wall. I slowly raised out of bed. When I looked down, Sage was not there. Who even is this kid? The blankets were neatly folded and stacked next to each other. Then my front door opened and close. I stood up incredibly fast. I watched as Sage casually walked in. When she looked up and seen me she froze like a deer in headlights. While chuckling I said.
"Did you even lock the door behind you?"
She grinned before slowly turning around and walking back to the door. I heard a click and now I was sure that she locked it. She walked back over to me and handed me a cup. I looked down at it confused. When I looked up she was still staring at me. I panicked under her stare and in a hurried voice said.
"what's this"
She gently smiled and said.
"Just coffee. I wasnt sure what kind you liked so I just got you what I get. Try it out and tell me what you think"
I looked down at the coffee again and gently brought it up to my lips. I took a small sip. It was not to hot and not to cold. It was sweet but still faintly had the coffee taste still in it. A small hint of Carmel. This is really good. I looked back up with a grin on my face and excitedly asked.
"What is this?? Its really good"
She got a huge smile on her face and said.
"Carmel frap. I'm glad you liked it. Maybe one day we can go get coffee sometime."
I nodded my head yes with a small chuckle. When I looked at the time I was late for work. I freaked out and almost dropped my coffee. In a panicked tone said.
"I haft to go to work. Thanks for the coffee"
I then ran out the door not even locking it. I was jogging down the side walk trying to make sure I did not spill the coffee or trip.
When I reached the shop I flung the door open. The first this I saw was Jane helping a customer. They both looked at me. I smiled and looked down at the floor while walking behind the counter. I set my coffee down and watched as the customer left. When I looked at Jane she was just off in space. I chuckled before saying.
"What is my job today?"
She blinked a couple of times then slowly looked at me. She slowly said.
"Go make sure everything is stocked on the shelves"
I turned around and started to wonder around the iles. Checking here and there to see if anything was low or not there at all. I suddenly heard a small hiss and I turned around. A snake was just staring at me from the other side of the glass. I noticed that it was bigger than me. Alot bigger. I swallowed and just kept looking. Ignoring the fact that a giant snake just threatened to swallow me whole. Then I heard the bell above the door chime. Notifying us that theres a customer. I heard Jane kindly say.
"Can I help you with anything today"
They gave no response and I walked over to see if there was any trouble. There was a tall man standing at the counter. He was shaking and looked like he has been crying. He was fumbling through his pocket and pulled out a peice of paper.
"Have you seen this girl"
I walked over to the other side and looked at the paper. It was Sage. I turned very red and felt my mouth go dry as a desert. I looked at Jane and she was nodding her head no. I looked at him and his red eyes looked almost glowing with pain. He was staring at me and I shook my head no also. Trying not to show the fear in my eyes so I looked at the floor. He walked out in a hurry. I heard Jane quietly say.
"Do you know her"
I shook my head yes. She took a deep breath. Then I quietly said.
"Shes at my place right now......."
Jane coughed and said.
"What, why?"
I started fumbling with my fingers wondering how to explain that a missing girl was in my small apartment. I took a deep breath and in a fast paced rant said.
"I met her in the park with blood all over her face then I brang her back to my place. She left but last night she was there again alseep in my bed and I didnt think anything of it so I let her stay the night...."
I took a breath and slowly looked at Jane. Her eyes were squinted and she was staring at the wall. She then gently said.
"So if I heard that right. You met a stranger in the park with blood all over her face. You dicided to take her home. Now she keeps randomly showing up at night at your place with out asking?"
Well when she puts it that way it does sound wrong. I said.
"She bought me coffee"
Jane almost slapped me and said.
"EMBER!!!!!"
I took a step back and said.
"Okay, okay, yeah I know it sounds bad and if she still there when I get back I'll confront her about it okay? Shes just a kid."
Jane shook her head before saying in a quiet voice.
"How old is 'just a kid"
I kind of just looked around the room then said
"13,14, maybe 15"
Jane's jaw dropped to the floor. She started grabbing her stuff and I asked.
"What are you doing?"
She did not stop but said.
"We are going to go talk to her"
I started to panic.
"No we, I am going to go talk to her. I dont want her running away. She is beginning to trust me too."
Jane sighed before looking at me.
"Are you sure?"
I replyed with.
"Yes I am sure"
I threw away my coffee that I never finished and now was cold. I looked at Jane and said.
"I'll be back tomarrow to tell you everything."
She shook her head basically saying yes. I left and started walking home. When I arrived I went to go open the door. I then noticed it was locked. When I left this morning in such a hurry I must have left my keys. I knocked hoping that Sage was still there. I waited a little bit and I do not think she is. So I walked over to the side of the building. I found my window and luckily it was open. I slid it open and trying to get my short butt in there. After a couple of hops and grunts I finally managed to get in. I slipped and fell onto my floor. A big gasp of air left my body and I could not breath. I was on the floor rolling around looking like fish out of water. I then heard my door unlock and it close. While I was still on the floor gasping for air. I saw Sage walk in with a take out box. She had a small smile on her face. She set down the box and I quietly whispered.
"He-lp"
She turned around and saw me on my floor. She ran over to me and crouched down. She looked over me then looked up at the window. A 'oh' expression fell across her face and she lifted me up. She guided me to my bed and sat me down. I started to finally be able to breath but my back was still throbbing. She sat down next to me and started to chuckle. I glared at her which only made her laugh more. I started to turn red if I was not red already. I waited till she was done laughing at me. When she was I nudged her and said.
"We need to talk"
Her smile left immediately and she got up. She walked over to the take out box and said.
"I got us some dinner"
I noticed she was shaking and I took a deep breath and gently said.
"Smells good. What is it?"
She said.
"Some Chinese food. I got orange chicken and chow main uhhh I think some rice and -"
She looked up at me and noticed my big smile and how I was staring at her. She turned bright red and cleared her throat. She walked over to the kitchen and set down the food. She smiled and said.
"If you want some you gotta come over here kripled"
My jaw dropped. Oh I see how it is. Okay, okay. I tried to stand up but winced in pain and sat back down. She chuckled and said.
"I was kidding goof ball relax I gotcha"
Little stinker. Playing with my head. I still really need to talk to her. When's a good time? She knows what I need to talk to her about and I do not think she is ready yet. I can tell she is scared but I do not know if I should wait or not.
