"A Wag a Day"

My dear one when you had to leave,

You never told me I would be left to fend with this anxiety.

I took those long walks for granted,

When I would be slapped by the weight of thoughts,

You were always there,

Whenever I needed those 3 am walks.

I always said that those were more for you,

Then they ever were for me.

But lets cut the bullshit,

Because I was a mess and you loved pissing on trees.

When water would pour from the clouds above

Along came you scratching on my window,

With one paw.

You were never mad if I hadn't seen you,

When life became too much and needed a rest.

I saw your tail wagging,

You just knew your human was a mess.

To my closest of confidants,

That I never needed to lie.

I mean who were you going to tell,

the lizards and the flies.

Now your human has a therapist

To help her get through these lonely sensations.

Hopefully without you,

I can get myself out of this empty rotation.
