I lived in a little village on a farm with my family. Every month we needed to pay the Lord ruling over the village to continue using his land. This month payment was due tomorrow and I overheard my parents talking about how to get the money. The harvest was very poor this month so we couldn't sell a lot.

The whole night I tossed and turned, thinking about how I could help with paying the Lord, but no idea was good enough. Early the next morning there was a knock on the door and I knew it was the servant of the Lord, wanting to collect the payment. I heared my parents sigh and walk to the door, opening it. "Good morning Mr. and Mrs (L/N), I'm here to collect the monthly payment.", the man in front of the door said. "We don't have enough, our harvest was poor this month. But we're willing to give you all we have and pay the rest next month.", my mother said.

"Unfortunately the Lord doesn't allow any delay.", the man said and I creeped closer to the door of my room. "Please, can't you make an exception?", my mother begged. "No, I can't. Now do you have children?", the man asked, making a bad feeling grow in my gut. "Y-yes we do, thats why we need the land to feed them and us.", my father answered. "Good, how many?", the man asked on. I heard my mother sigh and my father cleared his throat.

"Thr-three girls and a young boy.", he answered the man. "How old is the boy?", the man asked. "Please, he's just four!", my mother begged and the man sighed. I decided to peek my head out the door, finally seeing the man at the door. He was well dressed, his short, brown hair combed back. He nearly looked like a lord himself, but I knew it was just his servant, maybe his butler. "No worrys, he's to young to be of service to the Lord. How old is your youngest daughter?", he asked on, making the blood inside my veins freeze.

I was the youngest daughter. "She-she is twentytwo.", my father answered. "Perfect, I'll take her with me and she'll serve the Lord. That will pay five of your monthly bills but she'll never return home.", he answered and I saw my father think for a moment. "Fine, I'll go get her.", he finally answered making me freeze in my spot. He turned around, let go of my mother and walked towards me, standing in the doorframe. "Y/N, it seems you already heard whats going on. Go pack a little bag quickly and then you'll leave with that gentleman right there.", he said, pointing at the man at the front door, who looked at his pocket watch like he was in a hurry.

"Are you serious right now? You're giving me away to the Lord like that?", I asked shocked and he smiled at me sadly. "Understand, we don't have enough money and like this we can earn money for five month without needing to pay.", he tried to reason with me but I just shook my head, hurrying back into my room, packing a bag and storming right back out. I walked out the door, past the servant and towards the carriage in front of our house, without saying another word.

The butler followed me, helping me onto the carriage, before taking a seat next to me and grabbing the reins. He gave the horses the command to start walking and the carriage began moving. I looked at the passing land with my thoughts rushing, not bothering to talk to the man next to me. "He isn't that bad you know.", he suddenly said, taking me out of my thoughts. "You mean Lord Mensinger?", I asked, looking at him and he nodded.

"You'll see, you'll actually like living in the castle. It has its perks. I'm Spencer by the way.", he said and smiled shortly at me. "I'm Y/N. Thanks for trying to make me feel welcome Spencer.", I said and he nodded shortly, as we drove through the giant archway to the castle. I looked at the castle in awe until we stopped at the gigantic front door, an elderly woman standing in front of it. She smiled at me friendly and helped me down, while Spencer took the horses to the stable.

"Hello dear, I'm Josephine the housekeeper. And who might you be?", she asked, immedeatly making me feel welcome. "I'm Y/N.", I answered and she layed an arm around me. "Alright Y/N, then come with me, I'll show you your room.", she said and led me into the castle. I looked around at the expensive looking interior and the portraits on the wall. "Thats Lord Mensinger.", Josephine said, pointing to a portrait of a young man with shoulder long brown hair and blue eyes. I guessed he was looking somewhat older now, seeing that the portrait looked old as well.
