Tommy P.O.V
I still felt nervous standing at the entrance of the stage. After working for KISS for a while now, Ace decided to leave the band for good. And since I already played for them, Paul and Gene offered me to take over for Ace, taking on the Spaceman persona. I was over the moon back then, agreeing almost immedeatly. The first few shows were like a fever dream for me, but there always were fans that hated me for taking Ace´s place. It started with a few shouts here and there and continued in the still young internet. "Ready?", Paul asked, looking at me and the still new drummer Eric. He joined them before me, having played with them in the 90´s already. I gulped and nodded.
We were greeted by the screaming fans but already there were a few scowling at me. Nonetheless we started playing. I strutted over the stage, trying to look confident, when I suddenly stumbled over my own feet, catching myself before falling. That never happened before, I was quite good at walking in those platform heels. I shrugged it off, telling myself that I was just extra nervous today. But when it was time for my solo on ´Detroit Rock Cityˋ, I suddenly had problems with hitting the right notes, messing some up in the process. I got concerned looks from both Paul and Gene, just smiling at them. This continued for the next few weeks, getting more hate from some fans as well as them booing at me when I started playing my solo.
After another bad concert for me, Paul and Gene took me to the side after going off the stage. "What´s going on with you Tommy?", Paul asked worried but sternly. "I don´t know, really. It feels like something is freezing my fingers, without the cold whenever I try playing.", I tried to exlpain. "Well, maybe do some fingerstretching before the concert then, it puts us into a bad light.", Gene grumbled and I sighed. "We like you Tommy and we know that you can play those songs blindfolded. So whatever it is that´s going on, get it under control please.", Paul said and I nodded. "I´ll try my best."
Y/N P.O.V
I sat in my bedroom in the bunker, surfing through the internet a little when an article regarding my favourite band KISS catched my eye. It regarded the recent line up change in which the lead guitarist Ace Frehley quit and got replaced by Tommy Thayer, who had already worked for and with the band for a while. I scanned over the article, one line catching my eye. "Is he just an amateur that got spoken good about?", I read the last line of the article, regarding Tommy. I actually had no idea how he looked or played, I was too occupied with hunting when the line up change happened. Now interested I googled his name, immedeatly finding a video about his live performance. ˋIs he drunk or just showing how bad he really plays?ˋ the title read. My interest was peaked so I clicked onto the video.
There was Tommy, stumbling around the stage and missing complete guitar parts, as well as messing things up. Looking closely I could see that he looked a little frantic and some fans started booing at him or shouting mean things. Then the video cut off and I looked at the date it was uploaded. It was a few weeks after the line up change and his first live show, so I started to look for earlier shows. I didn´t need to search long to find a video that asked the same question. What was wrong with Tommy? It showed a lot of pieces of shows in a row and it seemed like he got this bad over night, like he got cursed. But different than the last video, the person uploading this seemed to be worried about the new Spaceman instead of making fun of him.
I searched for some more information about him, finding some pictures from the 80´s when he played in another band called Black and Blue. More recent pictures showed that he had a little shorter hair a few month before becoming the new lead guitarist of KISS. It looked cute but seeing the newest pictures of him I think I like him better with the shoulder long, dark brown curls he has right now. He looked quite handsome and like he was a nice guy. I admired him some more, remembering the hate he got from some fans and his frantic face when he messed up his solo. That and the fact that he got that bad seemingly over night let me think that it wasn´t his choice or his talent but probably something supernatural causing him trouble.
