I was cleaning my little house when there was a knock on the door. I sighed and walked towards it annoyed since it was that time of the year again. When I opened the door, my neighbor Christine stood in front of me. "Good morning Y/N, as you know tonight we are giving our offerings to the gods to pray for another good year of mild weather and rich harvest. Would you like to join us this year?", she asked sweetly and I sighed deeply.

"I really don't know why any of you still bother to ask, since my answer is the same as last year and the years before that. I don't believe in gods, witches, wizards or something like magic in general. So if you would kindly leave me alone, I've got some things to do.", I answered with a smile before pushing the door closed in front of her.

"If the gods ever hear you talk like that they'll be angry and punish us all!", she said angrily before leaving. I sighed again, walking back to my kitchen to check on the leftovers of my herbs. I figured out that some of them had healing abilitys, using them to create my own kinds of medicine. Even though a lot of the villagers called that magic I knew it wasn't any witchcraft.

While checking my storage I noticed I was running short of some herbs I needed to collect outside of the village. Since they also needed to dry before I could use them, I decided to go out and collect some, seeing that as an opportunity to escape the crazy villagers, praying to their gods. I grabbed my bag and walked outside, taking my old donkey Lulu.

I took ahold of the rope around her neck and tugged on it lightly. "Come on Lulu, time for a little walk.", I said and she started to follow after me. We made it out of the village soon after and followed the path towards the forest. It was a nice day, the sun shining down on us and not a person in sight.

Or so I thought. When we walked up a little hill I could see a person stumbling around in the distance. I watched them curiously, trying to figure out if they were drunk or actually injured. I couldn't quite decide between those two options until we came a little closer and I could see the tattered clothes that had red stains on them.

Right as I decided to offer my help, they fell to the ground, remaining there not moving. I let go of the rope in my hand, hurrying to the person on the ground. I kneeled down beside them and turning them around, looking at a young man. "Hey, stay awake!", I said with urgency, shaking him a little.

He groaned but remained unconscious. I looked him up and down, seeing multiple wounds of different sizes. "You are not going to bleed out on me mister!",  I said, more to myself, before calling Lulu over and heaving the unconscious man onto her back. "Alright Lulu, we need to cut that walk a little short, this man needs our help.", I told the donkey, before taking the rope and leading her back towards the village.

I kept a close eye on the stranger, not wanting him to fall down. We made it back to the village quite fast getting some weird looks of a few villagers but I didn't mind. Arriving at my house I tied the rope back to the pole and heaved the man back down and off of Lulu. She was coated in blood and I pitied her. "I'm sorry Lulu, I promise I'm cleaning your fur as soon as I got that one patched up.", I said, petting her neck gently.

I brought the injured man inside, laying him down on my bed. "God dammit you're a heavy fella!", I said, trying to catch my breath. Then I walked to the kitchen, getting a washcloth and some water, as well as some of my medicine and linencloths to wrap around his wounds. I walked back to him, placing everything next to the bed. Now the hardest part was getting his dirty and slightly torn shirt off of him.

I decided it was best to just cut it off, it was too torn to repair anyways. I grabbed some scissors, cutting the shirt open and getting it off of him, looking at the wounds. There were two on his chest, one of them stretching onto his abdomen and one on his right shoulder. They looked deep and blood still oozed out of it slowly. I started by cleaning them carefully, getting a few groans in response.
