From the moment on I opened my eyes this morning I felt awful. My head felt like it´s gonna explode every second, my nose was stuffed and I was freezing, even though I already was cuddled under three blankets. Just as I wanted to try and sleep again, there was a knock on the front door. I sighed and peeled two of the blankets back, taking the third one with me as I made my way to the door.

Opening the door I looked at the happy face of Eric. We just started dating a few weeks ago and I was a little embarrassed because of the state I was in. "Hey sweetie. Is everything alright, you look awful?", Eric asked worried. "Hey Eric, I think I catched a cold.", I answered with my stuffed nose, sniffling a little. "Oh dear. Then back to bed you go! I´ll take care of you!", he said, shooeing me inside. "But I don´t want you to catch a cold too!", I protested, while walking back towards my bedroom. "Nah, I´ll be fine.", he said, closing my front door and walked towards the kitchen.

"Now go back to bed, I´ll be there in a few minutes.", he said and out of pure exhaustion, I made my way back to bed. Wrapped in my blankets again I waited for Eric. A few moments later he walked through the door with a steaming cup of tea and a hot-water bottle. He placed the cup on my nightstand before lifting the blankets and placing the hot-water bottle next to me. I immedeatly felt a little warmer.

"Now tell me how you feel, so I can help you feel better.", he said softly, smiling down on me. "I´m fine Eric, really. You don´t have to do that for me. It´s just a cold, I´ll get through it.", I said and he sighed, sitting down at the edge of the bed. "Darling, I want to be there for you, even in times like this. Thats also a part of a relationship, so let me help you feel better.", he said, taking my hand into his, stroking his thump over it lovingly.

"Fine. I´m still a little cold and my head feels like it´s going to explode.", I told him and he smiled, laying a hand on my forehead. "Doesn´t surprise me. It seems like you´re running a fever. A pretty high one at that. Let me get you some medicine to get it down.", he said, standing up and leaving the room again. I looked after him smiling, being happy to have him.

A moment later he came back with a bottle of pills and a glass of water. Then my gaze fell onto the book under his arm. He gave me the pills and the glass, laying the book to the side. "Those should turn the fever down and also help with your head.", he said quietly, as I took some of the pills with a gulp of water. "Good girl. It should get better in a bit.", he said, placing the glass on the nightstand. I grabbed the cup of tea, sipping on it. "What about the book?", I asked confused and he smiled, holding it up to let me see the cover.

"A book of fairy tales?", I asked, smiling. "Yeah, I thought maybe I could read one to you, to make you feel better.", he said, blushing slightly. "How sweet of you. I would enjoy you reading to me.", I said and he smiled. "Alright, any requests?", he asked making me chuckle. "Surprise me.", I answered and settled back against the pillows, drinking my tea. He opened the book and cleared his throat.

"There once was a man, who lived in welth and happiness with his wife. And then, someday they had a daughter living happily together. But the wife got really ill and before she died she told her daughter goodbye and asked her to plant a tree on her grave. Whenever she will be sad, the wife told her to go to the tree and she will get everthing she needs, as long as she is good. The wife passed and the daughter planted a tree on her grave, caring for it. A few years later, the man remarried, a wife who already had two daughters. Those two treated her new stepsister as a maid, letting her do all the work around the house and making fun of her....", Eric began reading.

I listened intently to his voice, but kept getting more and more tired. Near the end I couldn´t keep my eyes open and the last thing I knew, was Eric taking the cup from me and kissing my forehead softly, before muttering a sleep well. Then I was off to the land of dreams.
