??? P.O.V.

Someone knocked urgently at the castle door, surprising me a little. Noone came here, even though our Lord was loved by his people. Since the Butler, Raymond, wasn't here right now, I made my way to the door to answer it. Opening the door, noone was there. I looked around confused until a noise in front of me made me look down. A bundled up blanket layed there, slightly moving. I picked it up and pushed the layers aside, looking into the most beautiful (e/c) eyes.

"A baby? Who would leave a baby here?", I muttered, looking at the small child. I always wanted a child but since I started working for the Lord all those years ago, I never had the chance to. Then I noticed a piece of paper sticking out of the blanket. I pulled it out, struggling a little to unfold it with the small child in my arms. When I did manage, I read over the few lines messily written on the paper.

Please take care of her for me. I'm dying and want to know her in good hands before I go. My sweet, little girl, never doubt that your mother loves you, because I do.

I love you y/n

I could feel the emotion that woman must have felt while writing, almost shedding a tear myself. I folded up the piece of paper again and smiled at the little girl. "Hello y/n, I'm Gloria. I'll take good care of you, I promise.", I whispered, the little girl giggling at me.

Y/n P.O.V

Since I can remember I grew up in a little house next to the castle. Gloria was a fantastic stepmother and told me about my real mother as soon as I could understand it. She must've really loved me to go such a long and exhausting way while ill, just to leave me with such a nice woman to raise me. I never was allowed to step into the yard of the castle, not knowing why. But even though I was curious, I never did it. Gloria would have a good reason to tell me that. After all she worked in the castle as a maid for the Lord. I didn´t know anything about him and I guessed he didn´t know of my existance either. But living close to the castle gave me the chance at a good life.

Gloria always brought food with her in the evening and I sometimes went into the nearby forest to collect berries and mushrooms. All in all I think my mother chose wisely. When Gloria came home in the evening today, she seemed stressed. "Everything alright?", I asked and she immidiately smiled at me. "I need to talk to you after dinner, that´s all.", she answered, making me curious. But I waited until after dinner. Gloria sighed after placing her dishes in the sink. She sat back down in front of me and grabbed my hand on the table. "The Lord wants to talk to you tomorrow. I think he wants to offer you to work for him.", she said and I felt a little giddy.

"That´s good isn´t it?", I asked with a smile and she took a deep breath. "It depends. There are a few things that come with working for him, so I want you to listen to him completely open minded tomorrow. He´ll explain everything to you.", she answered and I nodded. "I will, I promise!", I said and she smiled, squeezing my hand shortly. "Alright, you should go to sleep now, we need to get up really early tomorrow.", she said and I nodded, taking my dishes to the sink as well and then walked to my bed. So tomorrow I would finally meet the Lord. I noticed that I didn´ t even know his name, but Gloria always told me that he was a nice man that I didn´t need to fear. Excited for the next day I layed down in bed, dreaming of visiting the castle.

Early the next morning Gloria woke me up and I got dressed in my best clothes to look presentable. "Are you ready to leave?", she asked, sticking her head into my room. "Yes, I´m coming.", I answered, laying down the hairbrush and checking myself over in the mirror. Deciding that I looked presentable I made my way to the front door, where Gloria already stood waiting. "You look beautiful darling. Don´t be nervous, just keep an open mind and everything will be alright.", she said smiling, pulling me into a hug. "Thank you Gloria, I´m happy that you´re the one my mother chose.", I answered and she laughed. "Stop it or I´m going to cry.", she said and I laughed. "Just telling the truth. Now shouldn´t we be going?", I asked and she nodded.
