Chapter 5:
Jade’s P.O.V:
*day of Megan’s audition*
Yesterday, we took care of the horses and wandered around Birmingham. Today we told Megan that we were going shopping and we had to get in early, that the grooms would look after the horses. I woke up nice and early and took a refreshing shower. I was extremely nervous; what if Megs got really angry and refused the audition, my mind was spinning with different scenarios. I got out of the shower and dried my long black hair; I tied it up in a messy bun. Then I put on a pair of patterned leggings and a chunky knit- It may be July, but it is still a bit chilly. I slipped my navy vans on. I then put on a light amount of foundation and blush and finished by framing my eyes with eyeliner and a couple of coats of mascara. I looked in the mirror and was satisfied with how I looked.
I looked at the time and went to wake Megan up. She was a heavy sleeper and didn’t wake until I threatened to pour water over her!
Megan’s P.O.V:
I woke with a start when I heard the words “Cold icy water”. Jade told me I had half an hour to get ready...Fudge! I raced into the shower and back out again, the water was freezing! I had to give it a minute to warm up. When it was warm I hopped in and began humming Demi Lovato’s Skyscraper to myself. I loved that song so much! I hopped out of the shower and dried my long hazel locks with flicks of blonde. I decided to let my wavy hair hang long and natural today. I slipped on a pair of skin coloured tights as it was still cold and pulled on a pair of burgundy high waisted shorts with a top and a chunky cardigan. I wore my white converse. I put on minimal amount of make-up, foundation, blush, eyeliner and a couple coats of mascara. We grabbed our bags and me and Jade rushed downstairs to meet Aimee for breakfast and then catch a bus into town.
The bus stopped outside the Bullring. “I have a surprise for you two” Aimee announced. Jade danced on the spot with excitement, I laughed at her and danced along! Aimee pulled two blindfolds out of her bag and waved them in the air “...But you have to wear these” Aimee grinned. I trusted Aimee and she tied the blindfold around my head. We walked outside and called for a taxi, Aimee told him were to go in the quietest whisper ever... I couldn’t even hear her.
After about 10 minutes we got out, I could hear screaming.... Where were we? A theme park? I couldn’t really decide. Aimee steered me toward the screaming I began to get a bit nervous. I could hear Jade squealing “Jade, what the heck is going on?” I knew that she knew what was going on. The suspense was killing me, I yanked off my blindfold. Oh my sweet dear lord. We were in the queue for the xfactor auditions. The first thing that jumped to my head was that Jade was auditioning, she had an okay-voice and I thought that she wanted a career with horses, to follow in Aimee’s footsteps. I would happily support her if she wanted to sing though. “Jade! You’re auditioning? Why didn’t you tell me?” Jade and Aimee just burst into a fit of giggles. “Don’t be stupid... YOU’RE auditioning, not me. I couldn’t sing if my life depended on it!” Holy Fudge! This is why everyone was acting so strange, they were all in on the plan, even my mum knew. OMG, my knees started wobbling and I felt slightly, faint, I had to grab onto the barrier to steady myself (over-dramatic, I know, but, hey, it was a huge shock), all these questions were running about in my head.
“What that actual fudge!” I managed to stammer. “You’re auditioning for xfactor today” Jade grinned. “How long have you been planning this for? How did you, the biggest blabbermouth ever, manage to keep this secret from me? Does everyone else at home know?”I just blurted out all of these questions at once. Aimee and Jade just doubled over in laughter! How could they laugh? I was so unprepared! “Guys this isn’t funny, I don’t have anything to sing!”. Jade managed to stop laughing and handed me a sheet of paper and a CD. It was the lyrics and backing track to Skyscraper, she knew I loved that song. “The plan was in action since Mid-Term, when I heard you singing, it pained me to keep the secret but I knew if I told you that you would refuse to come. Mary, Carole, Aimee and your mum have known since Mid-Term and we told everyone on the yard on Friday!” Jade answered. “I...I... can’t do this” I stammered “I’m not good enough, you know that Jade”, I turned to Aimee “Jokes over, can we get back to the horses now. I’m not auditioning!” It’s like they were expecting me to react like this, I tried to barge past them and leave but I wasn’t quick enough. They grabbed my arms “Megan Kelly” Jade began, I knew she was getting serious cause she never said my full name, “whether you like it or not, you are auditioning today, you have a precious talent that can’t go to waste”. I just blushed “Jade, I don’t want to waste a day here when there are horses to look after and I’m not cut out to be a pop star I’m too fat and not pretty enough and all I’m going to do today is embarrass myself!” I was beginning to get pretty upset. “Listen, Megan. You need to stop putting yourself down your beautiful and you have an amazing figure, I have never seen a better person with a good voice who should be a pop star in my life” Aimee scolded. I gave up fighting with them. “Fine. I’ll audition for you two but don’t get your hopes up, I won’t get through!” I plugged in my earphones and began to learn the song while Aimee and Jade chatted away. I can’t believe I have such amazing friends that believe in me more than I believe in myself!”
