I saw it happen again, flames bursting out, yet halted as Kanan pushed them back with the force. Hera and Ezra are watching in horror from a carrier ship. Kanan looks at them one last time before he uses both hands to push the ship away and lets the fire devour him.
I can’t stop sobbing even after the vision ends. I’m alone in the dark, landing on my knees as I begin to cry even harder. I had seen it happen, and I did nothing to stop it. Could I have stopped it? No, one way or another the vision comes true, whether I’m there or not. I feel hot breath on me, I barely look up and I already see the big wolf standing in front of me, looking down at me. I simply don’t care now whether the wolf will attack me or if I will wake up. None of it will feel any better or worse from this feeling. The wolf lowered its muzzle closer and gently nuzzled my head. I’m confused at first but soon my hands reach up to take hold of the muzzle of the wolf. My crying doesn’t cease immediately but after a while, I let go of the wolf and take a good look at it. The wolf is not growling nor showing any kind of sign that it might attack me. It simply looks at me.
“You knew this will happen.” I let out quietly. “You… you thought I might stop it completely from happening. That’s why… that’s why you have been chasing me away. Because I was getting too close. I… I didn’t… I didn’t know I could do such a thing. Not until I was at the wedding… that boy really saw me… I was really there?”
“No.” It was a soft and deep growling that came from the wolf. My eyes widened and my eyes focused more on the wolf. The wolf had never talked before.
“No what?” I asked almost whispering.
“You… not… there…” Wolf said.
I wasn’t? Of course not. That all happened in the past probably even before my birth. But then…?“That boy…” I began wondering.
“Force,” Wolf growled.
“He was force sensitive,” I said more to myself than to the wolf. “He… he wore colors of Verdies, he could see me because he was force sensitive. But in real life, I was never there.”
As some things now got clear, some questions were rising. Could it be that I could talk to someone in my vision? To someone in the past or someone in the future? I heard growling. Not words, growling. The wolf seemed a bit angry. Did it read my mind? If it did then maybe, what I have now learned is the very thing that it had tried to keep me from doing. I shouldn’t get involved especially with the past. It began to dawn even more on the frightening truth of my ability.
“I could destroy everything.” I breathed. My attention went back to the wolf, it looked at me calmly without growling anymore, as if it wanted me to learn things by myself.
“I might destroy the past and the future together if I’m not careful,” I said.
“No.”
This voice was different. It wasn’t growling, it was clear and soothing. Yet it was also very familiar.
“K-kanan?” I asked. “A-are you..?”
“I'm gone. I'm one with the force now.” Voice said.
“Kanan, I’m so sorry.” I sobbed.
“Don’t be. You had no part in it. In fact, I’m sorry that you had to go through with all of this. I’m sorry that you had to suffer so much, that we couldn’t rescue you.” Voice of Kanan said.
“There was no other way...” I said and tried to calm down.
“Yeah, just like with me. There was no other way. But I was ready to do it, and save the people I care about.”
