I laid like that for what felt like forever. It was silent, but not an awkward silence. A comforting, calm, "you're safe" type of silence. I never wanted this moment to end.

My eyes got heavy, the only sound in the room was an occasional sigh interrupting his otherwise steady breathing.

Over time, I learned that those sighs didn't mean something was wrong, he simply would forget to breathe. Other times, it was an anxiety thing, like a hard reset to his body, but mostly he'd forget to breathe.

While the thought of him not breathing was scary, it was also comforting because it was just Dan. His mannerisms, his attitude, his outlook on life in general, was something I always found peace and comfort in. I felt safe.

I must have fallen asleep at some point during the silence, because I was being gently shook awake.

"Ellie? Ellie, we've gotta get up."

I groaned, rubbing my face. Then I felt a wet spot. Wiping my mouth, I shot up.

"Oh-oh.. my God, I'm so sorry! Your pants! I- I didn't-"

Covering my face with my hands, I ran my fingers through my hair. He laughed, looking down at the puddle of drool on his right pant leg.

"It's alright. You were knocked out. Not the worst liquid I've had on me."

I giggled, but still felt guilty.

"It looks like you peed yourself."

"It'll dry on the drive. Seriously, I don't care."

Sighing, I accepted what happened.

"If you say so."

Standing up, he motioned for me to follow him. I grabbed my coffee cup, realizing it was empty.

"Lemme grab my Redbull, just in case."

He nodded as he walked to the door.

I grabbed the Redbull from the fridge, my keys, my laptop, and my phone before following him out the door, shutting it behind us.

On the drive there, I tried to stay awake as Dan drove, but I dozed off. I woke up after he drove over a speed bump, the coffee finally kicking in as we pulled into the parking garage.

Getting all my stuff together, Dan offered to carry the laptop because he saw me struggling.

"Thanks. I'm so afraid I'm gonna drop it. There's too much footage on there for something to happen to it."

"Oh trust me, I know. I've had hard drives fry themselves before. Thank God they were backed up."

"Oh god, I can't even imagine the heart attack you must've had."

He laughed, holding the door open for me as I approached it.

I walked in the room first, Dan close behind.

"Heyyy!" Arin greeted in an energized tone.

I tried to reply the same way, my energy severely lacking in comparison. Dan succeeded though, a switch turning on in his brain.

He looked at me with confusion, I just held up my Redbull, sitting down at the same spot.

Dan sat down and leaned over to Arin. "She's really tired today." He said in his best hushed tone.

I could clearly hear him, but I pretended not to.

"She fell asleep on my lap earlier, it was so wholesome. It felt wrong to wake her up."

Arin leaned back over to Dan. "If she falls asleep today, leave her be. She needs a break."

They looked at eachother, Dan nodding understandingly.
