Sleep At Last

The smell of Chinese food filled the office about half an hour later. Ross and Suzy came in, carrying take out bags. Ross walked by me and waved. I waved back. We haven't ever talked much, but he always greets me when he sees me. I've known about him since Steam Train, way back in the day. Was a huge fan.

Suzy walked over to me, setting the bags down. She looked at me with a knowing look. I looked back at her with a sad expression.

She held out her arms for a hug. I slowly stood up and hugged her, resting the side of my head on her shoulder. She rubbed my back. "I'm sorry Ellie." Was all she mumbled. It was all it took for tears to start falling again, as if on command. I didn't know a human could produce as many tears as I've produced in the past week.

I pulled away before I cried on her. Wiping my nose, I chuckled. "Didn't wanna snot on you."

"I'm married to Arin, it's totally fine."

I laughed, sniffing.

"He got you some egg rolls and fried rice. Wasn't sure what you liked, didn't wanna bother you."

"Both of those things are delicious. Tell him thanks."

"I will.. and hey.. if you want talk, I'm here."

"Thanks, Suzy."

She nodded as she took her bag and walked toward Arin's office.

I ate as I worked more on the editing, finding out I really enjoyed doing this. The more I learned, the more confident I felt. I even found myself laughing at some of the clips. Even though Dan was in them, I couldn't help but laugh. They were just too funny.

I worked for a few more hours until Arin came up to me. I took off my headphones and turned to him, sitting them on the table.

"How's it going?" He smiled.

"It's going good. I actually enjoy this, a lot." I cracked a smile.

"Well, we're all about to head out, so we gotta lock up."

"Oh, okay." He must have heard the disappointment in my voice.

"I'm glad you're having fun, but it's almost 8. You're more than welcome to come back tomorrow!"

"Sweet. I finished 4 more episodes."

"What, really?"

"Yeah, most stuff had been done, but I got really good at thumbnails. Wanna see?"

"I'll take a look tomorrow. Been up since 6. I'll shoot you a text though."

"Sounds good." Wiping down the table with a napkin and grabbing my trash, I shut off the computer, making sure to put stuff back where I found it. I followed Arin out the door and down the hall.

"Thanks for today."

"Yeah, totally. Anytime."

"Have a good night!" I called as we parted ways toward our cars.

"You too!" He responded.

I drove back home. Traffic was an absolute nightmare, as usual. I'm just glad I live close to their studio. Eventually pulling in to my spot, I parked.

Getting out, I threw my trash away in the dumpster outside and made my way inside.

For the first time in weeks, I put on Game Grumps in the background as I started cleaning my bedroom. I like having compilation videos on while I do stuff. Whether I've heard them before or not, they're always nice to hear again, and I needed to finish what I started.

I cleaned my bathroom, dusted, and picked up all my dirty clothes off the floor. As I finished putting some clean clothes away, I decided to call it a night. I felt productive.

Having neglected my place for so long, it was nice for everything to be neat and clean. Hopefully having a clear place would allow me to have a clear mind.

Hopping into the shower, the hot water immediately made me sleepy all over again. getting out and changing into my sleeping clothes, I trudged to bed, and laid down.

For the first time in over a week, I got the best sleep of my life. I don't even remember getting into bed. Just falling into a deep, restful sleep. I don't even remember dreaming. Safe to say was a good thing for me, because I'm sure my brain would have taken me to a dark, dark place.

What I didn't realize was that dark place was about to become my reality.
