I continued editing for what felt like hours, and by the timestamp, it had been about 4. I was 3/4 of the way through yesterday's footage. Determined to finish it, I powered through the rest of the day. Once I was done, I closed the laptop with a triumphant slam. I immediately regretted that decision, opening it back up to make sure it was okay.
I texted Dan. "I have completed the challenge you have bestowed unto me. The one known as editing. Let me know when you're finished with an episode so I can come back in."
Until then, I decided to scroll through social media. Checking the Game Grumps Instagram, liking some posts, reading some comments.
"We actually just finished up for tonight."
Grabbing my laptop, I went back to their filming room. Dan was shutting everything off, Arin responding to some texts.
"Howd it go?"
"A shit show, like always." Arin said with a tone of defeat in his voice.
"Oh no." I chuckled, looking over to Dan for an explanation.
"Sometimes you win, sometimes you die a thousand times because you're not leveled up enough. It happens." He shrugged.
Laughing, I walked over to Arin. "This'll be fun to edit tonight."
My joking tone was met with a look that told me to keep the comments to myself, so I put my hand on his back, rubbing it as I squatted down.
"You're still 1000 times better than me. I've never completed a single video game in my life. I love watching people play them, but I could never do what y'all do. Not in a thousand years, and not every episode are you gonna kick awesome ass. You know the fans love a good struggle."
He nodded. "That's true, they do love to watch me suffer." He chuckled, stretching before standing up. "I'm gonna head home. Suzy's making dinner tonight."
"Tell her I said hey! Have a good night." I said excitedly, waving him a goodbye.
"Will do!" He closed the door behind him.
Cursing under my breath as I sat down, Dan asked what's wrong.
"He never sent me today's footage."
Dan walked over and sat beside me. "Well, after tomorrow, we're done filming for about a week. So he probably wants to give you a day off." He tried to give off a casual demeanor, but the worry in his words was evident.
"I don't want a day off though. I want to prove I can do this." My voice came out whiny, like a teenager being denied.
Dan sighed. "Ellie, we know you can, but if you keep working yourself like this, you're gonna burn yourself out. Working this much really takes a toll on your mental health. Arin doesn't want to see you put yourself through that. Hell, neither do I."
"It's really not that hard to edit the gaming videos. I don't have much to cut out or piece together. I couldn't imagine editing the 10 minute power hours though, oh God."
He chuckled. "That's why we have a whole editing team for those."
"The amount of utter chaos, it's ridiculous."
"They're even more fun to film when we're sleep deprived."
"I can imagine. Maybe I'll stick to the funny games. I've got a weak stomach." I chuckled, the mental image of many disgusting clips filling my head, making me a little queasy.
"I used to. Knowing Arin for so long really strengthens those muscles."
I nodded, checking my phone. A text from Arin.
