"Come on Sage! You never want to hang out with us and we miss you!" Chrissy whined as she reached back and grabbed onto your knee from the passenger seat shaking it wildly.
You rolled your eyes as your friend Heather (I'm making up a random girl. Fandom don't hate me) turned her head away from the road and raised her eyebrows at you as if to say 'you know she's right'. You shook your head at Heather and stared out the window trying to ignore Chrissy as she kept pleading. You groaned and let out a forced huff as you watched the blurry trees zoom by.
"You both know I don't like parties." A mumble came out of your mouth as you refused to make eye contact with your best friends.
You knew your friends were not buying it. It has been over 5 months now since you hung out with them past your weekly 5PM cheer practice. Everyday you went straight home, and every day you went straight to your room and locked yourself in your tower to loathe and wallow. You normally turned down their invitations via phone, or as the lunch bell rang and you ran to class. But you had no escape this time. Those 4 metal doors locked you in and you refused to tuck and roll out the door. Besides, you knew they would get you to go out with them even if it meant rallying up all their basketball boyfriends and throwing you into Heather's trunk.
You snapped out of your thoughts as Chrissy kept shaking your leg staring at you with her big blue eyes. Deep down you knew she was just worried about you. She just wanted you to stop spending your Friday nights depressed in your room and finally have fun with the girls for once. She was looking out for you, but the thought of a house filled with people exhausted your soul. You turned back to the front of the car as Chrissy's body was twisted still facing you, grasping your leg as hope flooded her eyes. You smiled at her and placed your hand on top of hers silently signaling to stop shaking you. She released and placed her hands on the back of her seat unfazed and attentively staring waiting for your next word with a smile on her face.
"Ok fine I'll go bu–", you were about to set some ground rules until Chrissy interrupted in gleeful cheer as she clapped her hands together and bounced in her seat. Smiles erupted on their faces as you rolled your eyes. You looked up at Heather in the rearview mirror and you shook your head at her with a worried smile. She gave you a reassuring smile back and a nod signaling that it was going to be OK. You kept shaking your head and laughed as you looked back at Chrissy who was grinning from ear to ear.
"Do you want to get ready with me?" You asked her, knowing this would just about throw her over the edge.
"Oh Sagey!" She squealed and her hands immediately reached out to you, grabbing any part of your body to embrace . You laughed and gripped her hands back, happy to have friends like her by your side. The two girls in the front began talking about what to wear, and what time to arrive as they drove down the wooded road heading towards your house. You laughed and smiled along with them trying to push back the anxiety that was creeping up in your mind.
