"You cannot avoid me forever!" Your mom's exasperated voice bounced off the walls as you stormed down the stairs.
"God knows I can try!" You seethed as your anger twisted inside of you.
Your morning had gone exactly as planned; you woke up, took a shower and proceeded to make your way into the kitchen and then school. However, that all changed once your mom decided to greet you with all of the reasons why you disappoint her. You also felt the need to let her know that if it wasn't for her inviting your sperm-donor of a father over the other night, and for future dinners at that, you might actually be willing to speak to her and acknowledge her presence.
"You know people would be appalled to know how you speak to me". Her body was fuming at the top of the stairs.
"Go tell them then!" You spun around to face her. "Be my guest. I don't care!" Your arms spread wide as her eyes enlarged, clearly taken back by your aggressiveness.
"There is something seriously wrong with you". She spat as her stare tore into you.
"Oh and you think it's ok to tell your child that?" You wanted nothing more than to point out her hypocrisy. "That's why I'm messed up. From you!". You raised your arms as the slits of her eyelids narrowed. She soon bounded down the stairs towards you in a fury.
"What are you? Drunk?" She passed you aggressively and stormed into the kitchen. "I don't even know who you are anymore". She mumbled to herself.
"No, mother. I am not drunk", You enunciated as you spun on your heels. "Do you want to smell my breath?" You were now walking behind her.
The anger in your body was about to spill over and your voice grew louder with each word until you were practically yelling. "You want to breathalyze me?" Search my room? Because I am not fucking drunk!"Her body whipped around quickly. "Sage!" She exclaimed as you rolled your eyes and walked away leaving her standing there. You huffed as you grabbed your keys from the table by the door and hauled your backpack over your shoulder.
"I don't appreciate the way you speak to me! And whatever it is that's been going on with you lately has got to stop!" She exploded, but before your mom could speak another word she heard the front door slam leaving her to replay in her mind what just happened while silence took over the room.
Outside, the cool morning breeze whipped across your face and you pulled your sweater close to your body. It was going to take you a couple minutes to finally cool off from the interaction with your mother, so you started up your car and headed towards school blasting whatever song was on the radio. As you pulled into the lot and found a parking spot you were lost in rhythm drumming with your thumbs along to The Clash.
'Rock the Casbah' hummed on your lips as you slammed your door shut and made your way towards the front of the building. You noticed a group of students hanging at the benches outside of the doors and you figured they were a couple stragglers from the basketball team ditching class.
