The cold wind whipped around you and nipped at your cheeks as you pulled your sweater closer to your body. You stood outside Eddie's metal box of a home, knuckles knocking against the door. It was a chilly evening and the sun was setting in a couple of minutes, casting a dark glow over the mobile park. You hadn't planned on coming here, but something in your gut told you that you needed to see him.
The rusted hinges of his door screamed and the screen forced its way open after what felt like an eternity, and there he was, standing in the doorway looking unbothered. His chest lay bare as a cigarette hung out of his mouth, leaning against the doorframe in his gray and black tattered plaid pajama pants. He just stared at you for a long moment, his round eyes searching yours. You could feel the tension in the air between you, but you didn't back down. You were already there. Eddie's eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he stared at you. You met his gaze, feeling a bit nervous and unsure of what to say. After all, things did get pretty awkward with him at school yesterday.
"Hi". You finally spoke, your voice cracking from nervousness and the cold. "Can I come in?"
He stayed silent, before turning away and walking into the living room, leaving the door open, signaling for you to follow. You hesitated a bit before stepping inside, quickly enveloped in the warmth of his carpeted home immediately. You could see the living room coffee table was a cemetery of empty beer cans, a sight that made your heart slightly skip a beat. You forced your eyes and attention away from them and onto your friend. Eddie sat on the couch, his eyes never leaving your figure as you hesitantly walked further inside.
You followed him to the couch, wrapping your sweater tighter around you as you settled beside him. He picked up the TV remote and turned it on while an awkward silence lay between you.
"Whatcha doing here?" he eventually spoke up, as he flipped through the channels on the TV.
He propped his feet up on the coffee table, making sure not to spill what looked to be his fifth beer.
You took a deep breath, shifting your eyes from the beer can to the TV. You didn't necessarily know why you were there. You just felt like you needed to be there.
Your voice was quiet as you stared at the TV replying, "I wanted to see you".
He kept flicking through the channels, not satisfied with what he was seeing, and grunted.
"That's it?" He questioned you with eyes still glued straight ahead.
He had thought you would have said more. He had thought maybe he would have gotten an apology.
You removed your eyes from the ever changing TV screen and stared at the side of his face.
"Yeah... Why?" you asked hesitantly, genuinely not sure what he was implying, if he was even implying anything. You were not quite sure if he was even listening to you at this point.
