The door to your bedroom swung closed as you placed your clean laundry on your un-made bed. Because your energy levels were dangerously low, you decided to leave your warm mound of fabric to be folded after dinner. Real big assumption that you'll have more energy after dinner, but nonetheless, there it sat.
"He isn't coming", you insisted. "I told him to leave me alone, and he left me alone. Simple as that".
Chrissy was going over the events of the past day with you while you got ready for an evening with your sperm donor and mom. She initially called to ask if you understood the homework assignment in one of your shared classes, but after spending the last half hour discussing how you were doing, you knew she had an undisclosed agenda. The one positive was that Chrissy had no awareness of what really went on recently; the fact you had your tongue sliding around Eddie Munson's molars, that you drove drunk to his house with a bottle of Liquor stashed in your trunk, or that he confessed he liked you and you almost told him it was mutual. All of that was kept to yourself. It was for the better.
"I think you just need to get over whatever is going on and come hang out with us this weekend". Chrissy's invitation was not lost on you. You just didn't have the energy right now to fold laundry, let alone plan a weekend with your friends- which meant alcohol.
You hesitated before letting her know that you were going to pass on her offer. The idea of doing anything except laying on your bed felt treacherous to the mind and caused you too much anxiety.
"Alright, I guess. Heather and I want to see you though so I'll tell her tonight that we can plan a girls' trip soon". Chrissy sounded disappointed, but she should be used to your behaviors by now. Rejecting her plans was nothing new to her.
"Tonight?", you questioned hoping not to sound too curious. "What are you all doing tonight?"
You don't think you felt left out. This is what you did; push them all away and keep them at arm's length. It was your M.O. and even you should be desensitized to the fact that your friends make plans without you. You can't reject them and then feel bad when you are not included.
Chrissy faltered before telling you that she had decided to have a movie night with Heather. "It's only a small little get together. Plus you had your dinner with your dad anyway".
Chrissy's explanation would have been enough, except for the fact that she was unaware you even had dinner with your dad in the first place. There was a tinge in your chest as those words left her lips, as if you cared, as if you felt forgotten. But the only person you could be upset with was yourself.
You shook your head, trying to rid yourself of the unwanted feelings, and stared at the pile of clothes on your bed. The thought of folding them later was beginning to haunt you.
"You wouldn't have wanted to come would you?" Chrissy's soft and hesitant voice broke you from your thoughts. "I mean, with the rumors going around I just thought...".
