It was a typical weekend night for you and Eddie, lounging on the couch and watching an old 1970's horror movie. You had been secretly hanging out for the past couple of weeks at each other's houses, since you had to keep your feelings under wraps at school. But it was getting harder and harder to deny the chemistry between you two; sharing glances during passing periods, staring at him as he walked into your class, trying to not smile at him when you passed by in the parking lot with your friends. It felt weird to be swapping spit one moment on the couch while Mr. Munson was in his room, and then pretending Eddie doesn't exist the next morning. Last week he upped the ante and 'accidentally' crashed into you in the hallway. Blaming his inability to see on his hair, he helped you clean up your books on the ground even after you protested. The students around you two stared and Jason gave him an earful, but it was the closest he had gotten to truly engaging with you on school grounds. It was nice to be wanted- if you can even call it that. It was nice to be noticed, and noticed for something other than a popular cheerleader or Chrissy's friend. Even if Eddie running into you made you slightly embarrassed. He showed an interest and it felt good. It felt different.
You were on one side of the couch and he was on the other as you dug your feet under him to try to gain as much warmth as you could under the blanket. He shifted his weight instinctually to allow you to scoot them further under. As you two watched the movie, you couldn't help but steal glances at him from the corner of your eye. He was honestly really good looking, with his dark hair and warm eyes. And the way he laughed at the cheesy special effects in the movie just made you realize even more that he was not this devilish creature society made him out to be. He would do subtle things that showed he was a good person, like ask if you wanted anything from your kitchen even though he had no clue where anything was, and call sometimes to make sure you got home safe. Even if he tried to play it cool, and not give in to the idea that he had a softer side, it was obvious to you.
"You know if you keep staring you're going to miss the movie". His voice broke your thoughts as his eyes remained focused on the tv.
You slowly turned away from him, trying to pretend you had no clue what he was talking about. He raised his eyebrows in response after a moment and looked at you.
"I'm watching the movie". You motioned towards the screen.
The curls atop his head swayed as he shook his head. "Mhmm... whatever you say", he teased.
A few minutes of silence passed between you two, and you clutched the blanket closer to your body as the monster on the TV screen inched closer. Piercing screams echoed through your empty house, sending shivers down your spine. As much as you tortured yourself watching these movies, for some reason, you couldn't resist. You liked anything that gave you a rush. A feeling. Even if it was terror. Bringing the blanket closer to your face you stared on.
"You know it would be a lot warmer over here", Eddie stated, breaking the tense silence. Your eyes glided over to him and watched as his head turned to you. "And safer". He then patted his lap twice.
