"See that one's the Big Dipper and that one's the Little Dipper", Eddie pointed out to you. "And if you look at the tail of the Little Dipper you can see Polaris''. His arm extended outwards into the night as you craned your neck to follow the tip of his finger.
"What's Polaris?" You questioned, squinting to see the little golden dot twinkling above you.
"Polaris? It's the North Star", he clarified. He peered over at you, and then back to the sky. "It's also the brightest star up there, and never moves. Sailors have been using it for centuries because it shows you which ways North if you're ever lost".
Your lips twitched, lightly smiling as you gazed up at the vast expanse above you from the hood of his van. A sense of wonder washed over you, realizing there was so much out there.
"That's so rad", you breathed, eyes searching the sky for other shapes and stars you never noticed before.
The air was crisp and you held the blanket tight against your body, leaning into Eddie, trying to soak up the warmth of him next to you.
"'This is amazing", you gushed, thinking out loud.
Your words made him smile, and he wrapped his arm around you bringing you closer to him. His recently smoked cigarettes clouded your senses, making you feel right at home. As they always did.
"I'm glad you like it", he replied, gazing up at the stars along with you, and then over to you. Seeing the smile on your face was enough for him.
When you got to his house at 8:00 PM, you thought you two would be hanging out there, doing your usual thing. But as you pulled up, you noticed his body was shoving blankets into the back seat and it was obvious that you two were going somewhere. You joked that the ones you left behind were not good enough for him, but to your dismay he agreed and said that where you both were headed you'd need warmer ones. He then proceeded to drive you out to a secluded spot on the outskirts of town, where you joked that he was going to kill you, dragged you out of the car, weirdly confirming your suspicions of him being a murderer, and then he told you to just be quiet and look up. That's when you froze. Riddled throughout the dark canvas above laid thousands and millions of golden specks dancing amongst each other. He laid out the blankets for you both, and bunched up a sweatshirt to use as a pillow while you gawked at the starry sky.
Initially you hesitated to lay with him, for fear his secret location was not as secret as he thought. You peered around, trying to see if there were any oncoming headlights, but he reassured you no one drove out there. You did your best to believe him and quiet your anxiety, and after a moment of hesitation, you followed him to the hood of his car. For the next couple of hours Eddie pointed out different constellations and told you stories about each one, as well as he could remember of course.
"Those three stars are his belt", Eddie continued, trying to point out Orion. "He's probably the most well known constellation, besides the Dippers".
"What makes him so special?" you questioned, having sworn you heard of this one, but you also said that about the others.
