Two black-haired boys played in their backyard with a football their mum got for them. They were awaiting their father who would teach them to play the wizard sport, Quidditch. He would only teach the basics and not with the actual equipment, the boys were only 10 after all, which was a bit too young to play Quidditch with its actual equipment. That's what their father thought anyway.
Their father was on an Auror mission, but he was supposed to be back by now. Him not being back yet concerned them quite a bit. Just as the twins continued their little ball game, Hayden accidentally threw the ball over the fence. Aiden immediately offered to go get it, he quickly stood up to go get it from his neighbour's house. He made his way inside his house and quickly ran through the hall to the door, just as Aiden opened the front door his eyes widened at the sight. In front of him stood his father, blood everywhere he could barely stand. Tears appeared in his eyes as he quickly ran to his side. "Dad! You- i-" He stuttered while He supported his father who nearly collapsed on the spot, Aiden wasn't sure what to do at first, I mean it's not every day you're father comes home covered in blood.
"Mum!" He yelled, thankfully she was in the kitchen which wasn't far from the front door. She peeked her head out from the doorframe and her eyes widened. "Rei!" She said and quickly dropped what she was doing. Alice, Aiden's mother knew quite a lot about healing magic, which was a career she did for some time, she ended up quitting and started writing, and most of her books became popular quite quickly, mostly because she was well-known because of her husband.
She supported her husband along with her son, she walked into the living room. Immediately noticed by her eldest child, Amelia. Hayden was still in the backyard, he had stayed outside to wait for Aiden to throw the ball back over the fence. But once Hayden heard all the commotion, he went inside to find his father lying on the couch blood everywhere. Daniel had woken up and started coming down the stairs, he was only 8 after all, and he had an early bedtime. Hayden quickly went up to him, to stop him from seeing what was going on in the living room. "Listen, Daniel, Mum and Dad are quite busy in there, should I tuck you in real quick?" Hayden offered, his little brother who was rubbing his eyes tiredly, nodded and turned back towards the stairs, and the two kids went up to Daniel's room.
Hayden quickly went to his parent's room, his mother's wand was usually up there, since she was very good in wandless magic, she left it there for emergencies. But then again she didn't use magic that much anymore. Hayden quickly opened the drawer and took out the wand before walking back to Daniel's room. He tucked him in, as a good brother would do. "Alright, good night Daniel," Hayden said with a smile before turning off the lights and leaving the room. Before going back downstairs to help the rest of the family he cast a silencing spell on the room, making sure that his little brother wouldn't have to experience this kind of incident at such a young age. Hayden sprinted down the stairs and was happy to see that his father looked stable, his wound was patched up and his bloody clothes were being washed by his mother.
Hayden took another look through the room before noticing his brother, he seemed to be spaced out, staring at the floor without moving his gaze. Tear stains were still visible on his face. Aiden was the one who discovered his father in that state and was still very shocked by it. Hayden sat next to Aiden and tapped his shoulder, breaking him from his trance. "Hey bro, you doing okay?" Hayden asked worried, Aiden nodded slightly but they both knew that was a lie. Hayden pulled his brother in for a hug and held him closely. Usually, it was Aiden comforting Hayden and for the first time it was the other way around, Hayden didn't mind, he was happy that he could help his brother in some way, even if it was just a comforting gesture.
The brothers stayed like that for a while, until Aiden gave good thought to the situation. If his dad was on a mission he would've just apparated here, but why didn't he go to a hospital of some sort? He could've been healed quicker than their mother could do. "How do you think this happened?" Aiden asked after a long silence, Hayden looked at him and shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know, perhaps someone came from behind and attacked Dad from there?"
