Chapter 8:
Harry was seated in front of the mirror, the one he had discovered only recently. He was staring deeply into it, with a sombre look on his face. He kept on seeing his parents appear, over and over again. Each time they appeared they wore smiles, although you could clearly tell they weren't happy smiles. "Back again, Harry?" A voice came from behind Harry causing him to turn around quickly, once the boy had faced the strange voice, he saw the headmaster standing at the entrance of the room. He slowly stood up and looked at Professor Dumbledore. "I see that you, like so many before you have discovered the delights of the Mirror of Erised." The headmaster said as he stepped closer to the boy.
"I trust by now you realize what it does."
Harry wasn't sure if he understood, He remembered what Ron, Aiden and Hayden said about the mirror. They saw their future selves, Aiden even saw a future Hermione, but Harry did not, every time he looked in the mirror all he saw was his parents by his side but he didn't look a year older. The headmaster stepped even closer to the boy until he was face to face with him. "Let me give you a clue." He said with a slight smile. Harry looked up at him, curiosity was written all over his face. "The Happiest man on earth would look into the mirror and see only himself exactly as he is." Harry looked down at his feet and thought about the clue for a moment until it all fell into place and he then returned his gaze back to the mirror. "So then, it shows us what we want. Whatever we want."
"Yes and no..." Harry looked at him confused, he really thought he had it figured out completely, guess he was wrong. But he was positive Hermione or The twins would know the answer by now, he thought they were a lot quicker and thought more logically, so when given the clue they would've figured it out really quickly. "It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest and most desperate desires of our hearts. Now you, Harry, who have never known your family...you see them standing beside you." He paused for a slight moment before adding. "But remember this, Harry, this mirror gives us neither knowledge nor truth. Men have wasted away in front of it, even gone mad." Harry looked once again into the mirror, asking himself one thing, back with his friends...they saw lots of things that could be from the future, could those things still be real? Now that he knew what the mirror meant he wasn't sure. Although Harry was pretty positive whatever Ron said could be true, something about being quidditch captain.
Then there were the twins, they had said that the mirror showed something odd, both of their left arms were covered by a shadow and there were pointy things visible on top. Ron suggested it was a quidditch injury. Which could be possible for Aiden but not Hayden, what Harry had understood is that he wasn't very fond of flying on brooms, much like Hermione. So it would be impossible if both had the exact same problem. Harry was snapped out of his thought when the headmaster started speaking again.
"This is why tomorrow, it will be moved to a new home."
Harry snapped his head back towards the headmaster, he wasn't sure if it was in irritation or in confusion. "And I must ask you...not to go looking for it again. It does not do to dwell on dreams, Harry... and forget to live." Dumbledore said while shaking his head, Harry just stared back at the professor, not exactly knowing what to say. "Well now Harry, you should probably head back to your chambers, It's quite late. I've already sent Aiden & Hayden back to bed, they were wandering around the halls, coming back from the library." Harry nodded at his headmaster and walked past him, but before he could go any further the professor's voice stopped him.
"This matter is severe Harry, don't look for it again."
Harry turned back one more time. "I understand professor." Dumbledore nodded at him slowly, telling him he could leave. Harry left the room and slipped the invisibility cloak around his body, sneaking back to the dormitory.
