Sam led me to a small lake almost the size of a pond surrounded by trees.

The water glistened in the sun and the air was crisp and refreshing.

I found myself wondering how he knew of all of these beautiful spots in the forest.

He's a wolf Millie duh he probably runs all around here on a full moon.

Wait today wasn't a full moon.

"How could you wolf out today if it wasn't a full moon?" I blurted out.

Nice one idiot. I mentally smacked myself.

"That's a myth. We can change on demand and it doesn't hurt. Only the first few times. And we don't want to go around bitting everyone when we are in wolf for either. Personally, I enjoy being in my wolf form. It feels free." He said answering my second question without me even asking.

"Oh," I replied.

He then sat down and patted the space next to him prompting me to sit as well.

We both sat in silence for a few moments enjoying the beauty and sounds of nature.

"Millie," he spoke pulling me out of my trance and causing me to snap my head towards him.

As I looked into his brown eyes I felt as though I was home. As if my heart was finally whole and right in front of me was the missing piece.

"Millie, we have some pretty serious things to talk about." He said almost gently.

"Okay," I said as a question more than a statement. The way he said it made it seem like he was about to deliver some very bad news.

He then began to tell me everything he knew about David, his dad, Connor, the rouge, the connection.

As he spoke my head spun and by the time he finished I could not hold in the tears that had escaped me.

How could David not have told me he was a wolf? We were in love. I was not a random person I was his wife, the mother of his child.

I did not understand how he could keep something so huge from me.

What would have happened if I never met Sam and Connor just wolfed out one day?

"Why didn't he tell me?" I whispered through tears as if Sam would have some sort of answer even though he never knew David.

To my surprise he did. "I am sure from what I have heard about David from you and Aunt Jules that he did it to protect you. He was probably worried that by telling you somehow it would make you more susceptible to an attack."

"Millie, what you had with David was real. The love was real. He may have kept this from you to keep you and Connor safe but that doesn't mean he loved you any less. It means he loved you more." He spoke with so much earnestness.

How could I ever deserve this man?

"Thank you," I said offering a small smile as he tucked a piece of hair behind my ear. The gentle action felt so tender so raw.

"Do you really think David did not die in a car accident?"

"It would have had to have been a pretty crazy car crash. Werewolves are pretty indestructible." The thought of David's dad doing something to him made my blood boil while my mind begged for vengeance for my late husband.

I never met Harold but if I ever did he was dead meat literally.

"And you really think the Red Moon pack is after Connor?"

"Yes," he said while letting out a breath knowing what kind of anxiety that word would bring me.

"So what do we do now?" I asked
"Now you and Connor move in with me where it is safe. And now I prepare for war," he said in such a serious tone it caused my breathing to pause.
