It was Katara's birthday, but to her surprise, everyone had forgotten. She thought Aang would have remembered at least on the way to school, but he was as clueless as a new born baby. Suki too, and it made her really upset.

However, when Kat opened her locker, it was filled with red roses ( her favourite! ), and when she looked closer inside, there was a neatly wrapped present and a note that read:

There is a silk ladder unrolled across the ivy,

That leaning over the precipice

Of the hopeless fusion of your presence and absence

I have found the secret that is loving you

Always for the first time

Happy sweet sixteen - Zuko x

Kat was smiling at the note for minutes, not realising Zuko was leaning over the locker next to her, admiring her beauty. "Do you like it?" he whispered, and she jumped.

"I love it. I didn't think you would remember my birthday," Katara hesitated to say.

Zuko frowned, leaning in closer. "Then I'm pretty sure I would be a sh*t boyfriend," he chuckled and Katara laughed in return.

"Let's go to my house," Zuko insisted, swinging an arm over Kat's shoulder.

"Are you suggesting we skip school?" she asked, her eye glistening with amusement.

"Maybe," Zuko replied cheekily.

"Okay, let's go." Kat tugged at his arm.

"What's the rush?" Zuko teased but when Kat glared at him, he followed her to his motorbike, handed her a helmet, and sighed as she climbed on. Skipping school was never this amazing.

When he started the engine, Katara's hands wrapped around his hip and Zuko grinned, driving out of the parking lot.

They didn't talk the whole way to Zuko's, but somehow the journey wasn't awkward. Kat was thinking about the poem Zuko had written. Did he really feel that way about her or was it all a lie?

Her thoughts were interrupted when Zuko slammed her against the wall, his mouth tracing lines of fire down her neck. Katara was worried someone would walk in, but her fear vanquished when Zuko carried her up three sets of stairs to his room, throwing her on his bed before locking the door.

"Is this a bad idea?" Kat giggled, propping up on her elbows as Zuko nestled on top of her.

"No," he whispered gently against her ear but she knew it was.
