Toph called. And she sounded really sad. Sokka wasn't home yet, so nothing bad could have happened, right?
Katara didn't have a licence yet, so she took a metro to Butakha's Square, and waited patiently outside the Beifong Estate. Finally one of the security guards let her in and escorted her inside their massive underground estate.
Kat knocked on Toph's bedroom door, until she heard her say, "Come in."
Katara slowly opened the door to find Toph sobbing into a pillow. "Oh my god, Toph, are you alright?"
"No," Toph croaked, looking up. "Thanks for getting here so quickly."
"No problem," Katara murmured , scanning the massive room. Laid out on the double bed where fancy desserts, cards, and a laptop. "I'm guessing Sokka left."
"He doesn't like me, Katara. He likes Suki! Can you believe it?" Toph blew into a tissue.
Katara always knew Sokka had feelings for Suki, but she'd assumed they went away when Sokka had a rising interest in Toph. She'd asked him about Suki on the way to Yue's party ages ago, and he'd brushed her off.
"I had no idea," Katara lied.
"You're lying," Toph choked. Katara had forgotten Toph could tell the difference between a fib and the truth.
"Oh."
"I can't believe I was so stupid!" Toph cried.
"Toph, you're not stupid," Kat reassured her. "I'm going to call Suki, okay? I'm sure this is all a big misunderstanding."
"Suki didn't do anything," Toph said to Katara's surprise.
"Okay, well, I'm still calling her," Kat chuckled, ringing Su. "Hello?" Kat pressed her phone against her ear.
"Katara, hi, I'm with Yarla right now. Can I call you later?" Suki asked.
"NO! This is urgent!" Katara exclaimed.
"What's wrong?" Suki asked instantly, and Kat could hear the slight irritation in Suki's voice.
"Sokka made Toph upset. Any tips on how she can get him back?" Katara asked stupidly.
"Make him jealous," Suki suggested. "Mingxia told me Toa dumped Jie because he had a crush on Toph."
Katara's eyes widened. "What-"
"I know right. Toph should defo date him."
"What did she say?" Toph asked quietly.
"You're going out with Toa, end of discussion," Katara ordered, standing up.
"What? I barely know him!" Toph exclaimed.
"So? You're going to make Sokka jealous, and Su said the only way you'll get him back is to make him jealous," Kat explained, mostly to convince herself.
