"Is Marie the mother?" si Mama kay Philip.
They're far from where I stand, and Marie is behind me. I'm holding Arthur, and he feels comfortable in my arms. My jaw tightened while looking at the bastard's face when I heard my mother.
If I hear Gaige's name coming out of his mouth, God forgives me, but I would love to punch his face, and I will not back out.
"Ma. . . I can't tell you yet."
"Really? Not yet? Huh! What the hell is happening to you? Dalawang taon ka nawala at nanirahan sa New York. And now you are coming back, carrying that baby without a mother? What sort of a mother who leaves her child?"
My ears heated, and my blood rose when I heard my mother's harsh words.
Damn it. My mind speaks, and I walk away.
I looked at the two of them and gave a hand sign to Philip, saying that I would take Arthur outside while the two of them talked.
Ayaw kong marinig ang pag-uusapa nila, dahil hindi ko alam kung ano pa ang masasabi ko.
I have the same question once proven that this boy is mine to Gaige. And I believe I have all the right to claim what's mine if Arthur is my son.
Wala akong pakialam kung karga ni Philip ang apelyedo ni Arthur. I could change it and I will make every possible things to get what's mine.
But as of the moment, I have to wait.
Sabay kaming lumabas ni Marie sa kwarto at sa balkonahe nagtungo. Tahimik lang si Arthur at nakayakap sa leeg ko.
Bahagya ang pagtitig ko kay Marie at hiya ang pabalik na titig na ginawa niya sa akin.
I smiled at her and sat comfortably on one of the soft couches.
"Anything you want, Marie?" I asked, and she looked at the menu in front of her.
"Pineapple juice, Sir. Salamat."
Lumapit ang waitress na nakatayo sa gilid at ngumiti sa akin.
"What do you want to eat, bud?" I smile, asking the little one.
"Ice cream."
"Ice cream? Okay. . . Two chocolate vanilla ice cream and pineapple juice for Marie. Oh, make it three vanilla ice cream," tugon ko sa waitress at tumango ito at umalis.
"Let's all eat ice cream," I smiled at Marie, and she nodded.
Arthur's busy playing Rubik's cube, and he seems happy by the look of it. He's a silent type of toddler but can easily talk and understand.
Halatang matalino ang batang ito.
"Hindi ka ba nahirapan na alagan si Arthur, Marie?" kalmadong boses ko.
I have known Marie because she came from the Province where my mother came from. Naalala ko lang ang huling sandali na bumisita ako roon na kasama si Gaige. I love the people there. They're friendly, loving and very accommodating.
Life is hard for them there, but you cannot see that on their faces because their smile and laughter make it all easier each day.
I even saw Marie's mother there, and I noticed they have the most comfortable living there amongst all their neighbours.
"Hindi naman, Sir, madali lang po at saka mahimbing po matulog si Arthur. Hindi po kailanman ako nahirapan sa pag-aalaga ko sa kanya. Parang anak ko na po ang batang iyan."
