Chapter 6: Warmth
Six months after I started my training in the North Castle, another news came that stirred the loathe I held against the people of the capital.
"What did you say?" tanong ni Lavinia habang nanlalaki ang mga mata at tulala kay Kamaria.
"The forest garden where your mother was laid to rest were set to fire, there's nothing but ashes now there. We're close to the winter season and the temperature has decreased in the capital. So it is impossible that it was a simple forest fire like tha authorities are claiming. Clearly, it was an arson. Also, her statue that is standing in front of the Garathea Temple in the capital to honor her greatness were beheaded. According to the detailed report of one of my men in Garathea, the statue has full of vandalism as well. Words such as, 'slut', 'tyrant', 'fake hero', are—"
"Stop..." Lavinia's trembling voice interrupted her.
Lavinia faltered from the place where she was standing. Processing the information that she just heard.
Then, another devastating news has come her way.
I don't have any memories of my mother because she died months after giving birth to me. But as her child, I still have a lingering attachment towards her. I respected her as the Great Summoner, as someone who saved the people of empire.
But to receive such disrespect from the people she saved is making my blood boil.
Aldaine, Astaril and Kamaria watched Lavinia's rage come to life in front of them.
"Forest fire they say?" Lavinia mumbled, voice are full of threat.
Kamaria sighed as she places the newspaper on her office desk, "Yes, the authorities who investigated the scene said so. As for the statue incident, they still have no trace regarding the suspect."
The forest garden that was once an enticing place are now covered with smoke and ashes, wala nang natitira roon.
"The Duke and the Young Masters of the Claymours are away at the moment. But I am certain that they have already heard the news. The Head Butler of your house are investigating this matter, he's also the one that are sending the reports to the men of Claymours."
Lavinia scoffed in disbelief.
That's it? He's talking big about loving his wife to the point of neglecting the cause of her death, and now he can't even leave his work for his beloved wife's cemetery? So much bullshit for a noble Duke like him.
They didn't even bother asking about my situation here after a month of probation and I didn't come back to the estate.
"But of course, hindi kasing-tanga at short-sighted ang North Castle at House Hampton gaya nila. We found traces of the suspect. Both in the arson and vandalism cases."
