(THIS WAS SO JOSH)
initial reaction
no bc my head was all over the place watching this episode
+ the frozen: the musical: the series joke 😭
+ idk how i'm feeling about gina bc she was natural in episode 1 imo but in this one,, it's like... she's trying to be herself but slips up and becomes an alternate nini in some scenes. especially with ej. like wtf was that line, "why can't i believe in my amazing, talented boyfriend"?? literally re-using nini's dialogue in s2. her almost breaking up/suggesting a break with ej was strange af too. gina doesn't give up that easily. she doesn't quit,, we all know that. it's ironic bc her song was "balance" but i don't think the balance the writers are aiming for is right yet.
+ kourtney and ashlyn calling gina out for being "gina 1.0" was weird too. she wasn't being cold or calculated at all lmao,,, and as her friends, they should know that she's always wanted smth for herself. there's nothing wrong with that,, she always wanted to "make her mark" and "prove herself". idk why they were making a big deal out of it.
+ the rina scene 😭
the awkwardness was great LMAO
i rly love how they wanted to begin again. idc ricky never meant to hurt gina,,, and it must have been confusing for their friendship to end abruptly.
but ricky definitely gave her the chocolates!! why else would the show bring this up more than it had to?? as a rini, i don't mind bc it actually makes sense lol. gina helped ricky come up with the idea to play nini his song over the phone,, and she left abruptly after. he naturally felt bad knowing why she came to him in the first place. he considered gina a close friend,, so why would he watch her go like that and not think anything of it? he's a sweet guy yk,, and she meant smth to him bc she rly helped him a lot in s1. there wasn't much romantic thought put into it,,, it's him being a good guy and helping a friend feel better on a bad day. ig the reason why he played along with the inside joke was bc she already believed it,, and i think he thought it would have been more meaningful to her if it was her mom who sent it.
while we're on the topic,, ik so many people hated ricky for leading gina on but i think ricky isn't completely aware of gina's feelings at all? think about it. the day gina "confessed" ((and it wasn't a straight confession,, it was smth that ricky could interpret in a different way. ik for the audience it's obvious,, but let me explain why it wouldn't be that way for ricky)), ricky just had a mental breakdown over his mom and her new boyfriend while doing his first musical as the lead,, while also feeling overwhelmed with his feelings for nini in breaking free and later in the ily scene. nini feels the same way and that's an immense relief for him,, and he finally gets back together with the one he's been chasing since ep 1. with all that happening,, i wouldn't be surprised if his conversation with gina isn't clear in his memory. from the moment he and nini almost kissed in episode 8,, i don't think any other romantic possibility was possible in his mind. for what other reason would he easily dismiss big red asking if jfam was for gina,, or why seeing gina again in episode 9 didn't bring back romantic feelings, but instead strengthened his certainty that nini is who he wanted to be with?
