Each of us hadn't spoken for quite some time. The anxiety in my stomach was building, and I could feel the beat of my heart elevate by the second. It seemed to happen whenever I didn't have anything to do.

Ever since I lost my mom, the world around me hadn't stopped moving. I had gone from one to the next. Being in the caves had changed that. There was plenty of time to dwell on the pain, and now sitting in our silent disappoint, it had the chance to grow and spread inside me like a rapid fire.

Staring at my hands, I watched as they began to shake involuntarily. Swallowing, I tried to relax, but even that seemed to only make it worse.

My eyes averted to the dirt next to me rising from the ground. It wasn't a lot, just a handful at best, but it was as if a wind passed by, carrying it through the air.

Elijah was smiling, his sword glowing brighter than it had been moments ago. He blew the dust toward my face before I shifted and instinctively closed my eyes as it hit my cheek.

"You need to relax." His voice was firm, but his eyes appeared concerned. I realized he must have noticed my shaking hands as well.

"Is there anything you don't notice?" I said, amazed at his constant awareness skills.

With a crooked smile, Elijah moved to sit right beside me. "I cannot deny that I am a highly perceptive individual, but shaky hands and worried eyes are difficult to miss."

"It's everything?" he said, finishing my sentence.

With a smile, I nodded. "I guess I just don't know how to process it all without internally freaking out when things finally slow down."

"One cannot process everything in a single moment, dearest princess."

I wiped away a tear. "I miss her," I said, my voice breaking. "I just wish I was strong enough not to let it rock me every five seconds."

Elijah shook his head. "You are so much more than you believe you are. Divinity chooses us. That means something. This powerful force that brings peace and love into our lives chooses to use us. Do not forget your worth or your value. You may not feel strong, but I see it, and so does Divinity."

Smiling, I turned to face his eyes, blinking away another tear. "Do you know your worth?" I started out. "You're becoming one of my best friends, and I hope you know that I'm here for you as much as you are for me."

With a smile so wide it reached every corner of his face, I felt my own smile beginning to follow his lead. I reached for his hand, gripping it tight, before he pulled me close. My head rested on his chest as I listened to his steady heartbeat. In that moment, I was holding him as tight as he held me, reciprocating every action to prove to him how much he meant to me.

Then something deep within began to reach out to Elijah. It was as if the Divinity that had surfaced every time I called to use its magic was now pulling me toward him. Somehow deep within my soul, I knew Divinity was trying to speak to me, telling me that Elijah was and always would be exactly who I needed.

A gentle sigh escaped Elijah's lips as he began to grasp some of my hair. "One flesh," he whispered. There was a pleasant peace in his voice, and I knew without seeing his face he was smiling.

Pulling away, curious as to what he meant, I spoke. "What?"

"Does this mean you've figured it out, Addisyn?" Jake had his arms crossed over his chest. His gaze shifted between us both before remaining on me, waiting for my reply, and taking away Elijah's chance to answer my question.
