Addisyn
It had been a while since Aasim had needed to fly at his full capacity, and comparing his speed with my time with Joash, they were almost one and the same. (A race with Jake would need to be arranged to confirm my theory, and as the idea came to mind, I couldn't wait to make it happen.) Still, having experienced both, I realized dragons were quick, with brash and sharp movements, while Pegasi were swayers, gently gliding to and fro.
No matter the transportation, our hastiness was necessary, especially since I knew what was to come. If the people I cared for were going to face defeat, they would do so with me at their side. I still could not understand Selah's plan fully, and whenever I fixated on it, I often grew agitated, but divinity was quick to respond with the powerful words they had spoken in unison: their ways are higher than my own. They were words capable of humbling me a thousand times over.
"Addisyn, surely you can be more specific!" Elijah yelled, his hands wrapped around my waist as he leaned his chin on my shoulder. I'd heard the question asked a thousand times but had expected his persistence. He wasn't the type of guy to give up, and that steadfastness, which I had always admired, was also growing surprisingly irritating. It only made the secret that much harder to hold.
Gritting my teeth, I turned my head slightly to the right. "Look! I already told you everything that happened is between Selah and me! You'll see it play out for yourself, and eventually I'll explain it! But he asked me not to say anything until the time was right!"
"Yes, but surely—"
"Didn't you agree with my mother when she said that I should be mindful of what I share that divinity shows me?" I pointed out, my irritation pouring out of every word I yelled.
It was hard to see his face when I couldn't fully turn to face him, but his silence told me I'd made my point. His thumb suddenly caressed my stomach while he nuzzled my neck, careful to keep his movements slow. We were, after all, several hundred feet in the air. "Whatever it is, I feel how much it burdens you. Addisyn, I only wish to take it from you."
I pinched the bridge of my nose, upset with myself for dismissing his persistence for nosiness rather than concern for my welfare. Getting past my own distractions, I finally noticed how worried he felt, and I gripped his hand just a little tighter. "Look, I'm sorry I've been so in my head. What I saw and what I was told was more than my feeble brain could honestly grasp." I laughed but not humorously, still so utterly flabbergasted before speaking again. "I know you want answers, and someday I'll tell you everything. But for now just trust that I won't be so whatever it is I'm feeling forever. Eventually it's going to get better. Divinity and Selah promised me that."
His lips lingered on my cheek, and I reveled in the moment between us, the rush of flying and affection, definitive answers to the goodness of divinity. If all good things came from divinity, then the only thing left to do was exactly what Selah had asked.
They are just ahead, Addisyn! Look!
My eyes caught their group almost immediately. The small army of divinity users totaling approximately five hundred traveled across the tall grass. Not a single soul remained hidden under a conceal, ready to make a loud entrance at the gates of Odmos.
As we approached them, their scouts were quick to spot us, with one fairy on the back of a Pegasus flying up to greet us. Their cheers echoed across the valley, anticipating what their hearts believed to be the arrival of the light.
"You've returned to so quickly!" Athalia squealed, her eyes dancing with delight. Her Pegasus greeted Aasim as an old friend, their wings fluttering at the same speed as we descended toward the others. "Princess, where is the light?" Her eyes took in every inch of us, searching for a glimpse of what would save all of Arwick.
