TWENTY | SPRING RULE BREAKERS

March 1986

Olivia gets out of her car and follows the mob of students that pile into Hawkins High. There are staff members all over reminding students about the pep rally in the gym, which is taking place first thing in the morning. Which is dumb as fuck. Who schedules a pep rally at 7 in the morning??

"Olivia!" The school counselor Miss. Kelley stops her. "I hope to see you in my office later today."

"You ask me everyday and everyday I tell you no. When are you going to realize that it's never gonna happen? Have a good day."

"Hey Liv. Going to the pep rally?" Dustin asks.

"Wasn't planning on it. I don't feel full of pep today."

"Oh come on it'll be fun! Lucas will be there."

"Walk away before I light your hat on fire." She jokingly hits him.

"Is that smoke I smell?" She smirks at his side comment.

"Walk away."

"I'll see you at lunch then." She turns down the hall and sees Max with her headphones on.

She taps her shoulder.

"Hey." Olivia greets. Max removes her headphones.

"Hey."

"Do you want a ride home after school today?" She shakes her head. "It's really not a problem."

"It's fine. I can take the bus."

"Look, Max—"

"I gotta go." She puts her headphones back on and walks away.

Olivia feels terrible that her and Max's relationship fell through the cracks. But now that she's past the grieving stage, and doesn't feel the need to break down in tears when she sees the young redhead, she wants them to come back together.

She misses her.

Olivia disappears into the bathroom to hide in the stall while everyone goes to the gym. After some time, she sticks her head out to make sure the coast is clear before heading to her locker.

"Well, well, well. What do we have here? Princess Peterson is skipping out on the pep rally? That's a big no no." Olivia turns around.
