*I was listening to the song above.*
The elf wrapped the cloak around my shoulders and did the leaf clasp. Then, she stepped away.
"Never before have we clad strangers in the garb of our own people. My these cloaks help shield you from unfriendly eyes." Lord Celeborn said. Legolas and I bowed our heads to him. We were also given gifts. To Aragorn, a new sheath for his sword, very ornately decorated. For Boromir, a new belt. For Legolas, a bow from their army. His eyes lit up like a five-year-old on Christmas morning. To me, Galadriel gave me a gray bag with what felt like clothes. "You will have need of this. No blade will pierce the one who wears it with a pure heart." She said. The two hobbits were given a dagger, Sam a rope, and Frodo a bottle of white syrup. It was Gimli's request that shocked me. He asked for a piece of her hair. Which was sweet, or creepy, I couldn't decide. We were also given three, gray boats.
I stared out at the long, dark river. My biggest fear. Dark, water where I cannot see anything. Legolas put two packages in the boat and removed a small square wrapped in a large leaf from another.
"Lembas. Elvish waybread, one bit is enough to fill the stomach of a grown man." He took a small bite off the corner. Merry and Pippin nodded their heads. Legolas noticed me standing away from the rest.
"What troubles you, my love?" He asked.
"The water. I hate dark water." I look at my feet.
"Keep your eyes up and try not to think of the unknown." He pulled me into his arms and kissed my head. "We have a long journey ahead of us."
We look over to see Merry chuckling.
"How many did you eat Pip?"
"Four," Pippin replies. Legolas and I both laugh. Our fellowship splits into three boats. Legolas, Gimli, and I are in one, Aragorn goes with Sama and Frodo and the others in the third. I grip the sides of the boat and try to think happy thoughts. "Puppies, jellybeans, bunnies, beaches, ice cream, horses, books," I mumble to myself. I turned to see my husband looking sharply into the forest.
"Legolas what is it?" I asked, slightly panicked. A bird flew up from the trees and the rest turn to look at it. He smiles at me. I do not like it when he does that.
The fellowship decided to camp on the bank that night. By the time we hit the shore, I was a shaking wreck. We put our bags on a log and then Legolas led me through the trees. The two of us came into a small clearing.
"How are you doing?" He kissed me. I had to hold onto his shoulders to prevent myself from falling. "Better. Just keep thinking happy thoughts." My husband squeezed my shaking hands in his own. "You are very brave, not everyone would hold it together as well as you did. We have about another day and then we say goodbye to the river."
"Thank goodness. Legolas, what did you see earlier?" I ask him seriously.
"I do not know. Creatures, dark ones. Larger than any I have seen in Mirkwood."
"Did they see us?"
"I don't know. I pray not. Do not stray by yourself, stay close to me or one of the fellowship." He led me back to the camp. Sam was breaking off pieces of lembas and Pippin was smoking his pipe. The scent of the pipeweed made my stomach turn and a wave of nausea overtook me. I ate my small piece of lembas and was awed at how it filled me up. One small piece made you feel like you ate a whole meal.
Legolas sat against the rock with me between his legs.
"Have some food Mr.Frodo. You haven't eaten anything all day and you're not sleeping either. Don't think I have not noticed." Sam offered. "Mr.Frodo?"
