"Gollum has escaped." The guard stated.

Thranduil leaned forward. "What do you mean escaped? Can my guards not keep prisoners?" The King was furious. Gollum had climbed the tree in his enclosure and managed to escape during the invasion.

"Have a search sent out. Track any leads. He must not leave Mirkwood!" The king ordered. The other captains turned to leave.

"Legolas and Erulisse, stay." He stated. Legolas and I turned back.

"I need someone reliable to ride to Rivendell and tell Lord Elrond about the escape. He must know."

Legolas and I looked at each other. I was confused as to why the king used a tone of extreme urgency.

"I am trusting you with this task Legolas."

Legolas jerked slightly. "Yes, Ada. It will be done. May I take Erulisse with me?" He squeezed my hand.

"If she doesn't cause you to lollygag too long." He waved us away.

Rivendell. I had only heard of the wonders of the hidden valley. Legolas was silent as we walked back to our home.

"Are you Okay Lego? You seem disturbed."

"I am. Normally I wouldn't fear one of my father's orders but this has placed a warning in my soul. I do not think this is a small mission of minor importance."

I hugged my husband. "Do you think the kingdom is in trouble?"

"I believe the world is. Something is not lining up. Orc attacks are more frequent, Gandalf has been seen travelling to various places, Aragorn has disappeared, and now there is an urgent warrant out for a gremlin."

When he put it like that I could tell something was not right. "It does seem odd. But, I am sure everything will be alright." We walked upstairs to begin packing for our journey. I was putting a few extra tunics in my bag when Legolas stopped me. He turned me towards him. "I do not know where this will take us but I want you to know that I will protect us. By any means necessary. Do as I say and no harm will come to you." He hugged me tightly.

"I know. You promised."

"And you know how seriously I take that promise." He kissed my cheek. "I do believe we will be needed for something greater."

We were invited for supper with Thranduil that night.

We agreed but ate in silence.

The king was in one of his moods and Legolas was agitated. I wish I knew what he did. There was something weighing him down.

"I cannot say that you both will not endure great hardship," The king said sadly after a while. "There is a greater fate that lies before you. Hold fast, protect each other, and you will rise above it."

Legolas held my hand across the table. "We will. I will not let us be parted."

"Every ounce of your strength is going to be tested. Keep your guard up and trust no one who doesn't deserve it."

We finished supper and rushed home so we could get enough rest for tomorrow. I put my dress back in my wardrobe and pulled Legolas's shirt on. I sniffed the collar and smiled. His scent was always so calming. Legolas stepped out of the bathroom and looked me over. He smirked and picked me up. The tunic fell off my shoulders. Legolas threw me on the bed.

"Take care of her Legolas. I have enjoyed having a female to stir things up." Thranduil hugged me. He kissed my cheek and stated an elvish blessing over me. He did the same for Legolas.
