We were awoken the next morning by the cleaning of axes and picks. Gimli's kin had arrived and they jumped right to it. We greeted them of course and then packed up our camp. Gimli walked us out.

"I must say, I never thought I would find friends with two pointy ear royals." He smiled sadly. I hugged him. "Well, you have. Goodbye Gimli."

"Goodbye lassie, good luck to you." he smiled. Legolas hugged his friend. "We will come to visit. Goodbye, my friend."

Legolas boosted me into my saddle and tied Wolf to the back of his horse. We cantered down the causeway and out onto the plains. The two of us rode under the sun and camped under the stars. Legolas insisted on keeping watch at night. I tried to get him to let me take over but he refused or didn't wake me. I noticed he still kept his weapons close. Aragorn had cautioned us against straggling orcs in the wild. However, we hadn't run into any so far. I was becoming more and more nervous, seeing as I was coming up on six months along and we were still a ways from Mirkwood.

I didn't feel the extent of my fear until one afternoon.

Legolas and I walked along under the trees. We were heading towards the northeast and approximately two days from the Mirkwoodian borders. Our horses walked through a shallow stream and Wolf tripped on a rock.

"Easy boy." I cooed to him.

"Is he alright?" Legolas turned in his saddle.

"Yes he's.'" my sentence was cut off by a sharp pain ripping through me. "Oh, Legolas." I grabbed my middle and whimpered in pain.

"What is it? What happened?" He asked worriedly as he dismounted.

"Get me off," I whispered. Legolas held out his arms so I could lower myself into them. He set me lightly on my feet and held my jaw. "What did you feel?"

I grimaced when another pain ripped through me. "It hurts. So, so bad."

He looked at my stomach. "Is the baby kicking?"

"No, this is different," I said fearfully.

"What do you mean? Is the baby coming?"

"It's too early. Legolas I'm scared." I grabbed onto his shoulders to keep from falling. "I think something is wrong." Another cramp took over and I inhaled. "Something is really wrong."

Legolas looked panicked. "Alright. It's okay, everything is going to be fine. What do I do?"

I panted. He held me in one arm as he undid our saddles. Legolas layered our blankets on the ground and helped me lie down. He held my hands which rested on my stomach. I tensed with every cramp that came. I hoped I wasn't hurting his hands. The Prince was trying to keep his cool for me but I could tell how scared he was. We were both worried. Legolas curled up around me and tucked our cloaks around us. I kept breathing through the pains and praying. I was praying hard.

I must have fallen asleep because when I woke up I could hear Legolas talking to someone. He had tears in his eyes as he rubbed my stomach.

"Please be alright, please be alright." He whispered. I didn't feel any pain. In fact, I felt like nothing had even transpired.

Legolas noticed I was awake. "How are you feeling?" He leaned over me. The sun streamed down through the leaves and made my eyes squint. "I feel alright. No cramping."

He sighed. "Is that a good thing or a bad thing?"

I didn't know. I shrugged. He smiled. "We have crossed into Mirkwood. I found the sign." He chuckled. "I was so panicked I didn't notice where we were."
