Shao Fei's POV

I looked up from my work to the sound of a groan from my best friend Zhao Zi. He was roughly erasing something on his paper and had an annoyed look on his face. We were on break, and they decided to catch up on some work.

"What's wrong? Do you need help?"

He rapidly nodded his head and ran his fingers through his hair in frustration.

"Why'd they give us such difficult work? And how are you so good at it?"

I smiled to myself. I am always studying and paying attention in class. I want to get a good education for my mom. We're not rich in any shape or form. My mom owns a small restaurant that I always help out at. I would rather drop out and help her 24/7 but she insists that I should finish school so I can get a better job in the future. So, I always study, always show up to class no matter what, always work just for her.

"Here, you can use my notes. They should be able to help you."

I passed him my notebook. He eagerly took it and grabbed my hand.

"Oh, thank you my gracious friend. Whatever would I do without you and your kindness."

I rolled my eyes.

"Stop being so dramatic."

He smiled and went back to his work. We worked for a while until I heard a couple girls whispering to each other behind us.

"Oh my god, there he is. He's so hot."

I froze for a second. There's only one person that they could be talking about. I slowly raised my head, and there I saw him walking.

Tang Yi.

I quickly looked back down at my work. Tang Yi was the coolest, popular, and hottest guy in this university, maybe even in all of history. I've had a crush on him for a while now and I still haven't confessed to him. There were times when I would try to walk up to him and confess, but then chicken out at the last minute. Zhao Zi knew about my crush on Tang Yi and constantly teases me whenever we see him.

I looked back up and saw that he was gone. I was relieved but also disappointed.

"Looks like someone has the case of lovesickness."

I turned to see that Zhao Zi had that stupid grin that he makes whenever he teases me.

"Shut up."

I looked back down and tried to concentrate on my work. I could feel my face heating up and Zhao Zi just laughed at my situation.

"Come on, I'm your best friend. It's my job to tease you."

I just rolled my eyes at his comment, but I would totally do the same to him if he had a crush. I took out my phone to check the time.

"Come on, break's almost over. We should head back to class."

We packed up our stuff, my mind still occupied by a certain someone.

Tang Yi's POV

I was walking to meet up with Jack for our break when I saw Shao Fei. He was sitting at a table with his friend looking down at some papers. I smiled to myself at the way he seemed so concentrated on his work. That's one of the things I've noticed when I observed him, and I find it cute.

I've had a crush on Shao Fei for a while now. He's always so nice, willing to help people out, putting others before himself, and he's so smart. Whenever I see him on break, he's always working. I've always wanted to be close to him, but I also don't want to drag him into my life. For someone with a pure soul like him, getting into my life would destroy him.

I went into an alleyway and saw Jack leaning against a wall, cigarette in hand. I walked up and stood next to him. I pulled out a box of cigarettes and put one between my lips. Jack pulled out a lighter and lit it. I took one big puff and let out a small sigh.

"You seem distracted. What're you thinking about?"

I shook my head and took another puff.

"You saw him, didn't you?" Jack said in a teasing tone.

I let out a small chuckle. Obviously, he would know. I never directly told him I had a crush on Shao Fei. He just observed me and put the pieces together himself. That's how Jack is, he's always observing and knowing everything.

"So what if I did?" I said nonchalantly.

Jack chuckled and took a puff.

"Don't go all cool on me. I'm your friend, I know how you feel about that guy. You want him to be in your life, but you also don't want him involved in your life."

I looked at him. He wasn't wrong, but I didn't say that out loud. I heard him sigh and watched as he dropped his cigarette and stomped it out. He placed a hand on my shoulder.

"Look, I'm no expert on relationships or love or anything like that. But if I were you, I'd take the risk. I know you don't want him to get involved, but wouldn't you rather have him by your side than watch him from a distance? Besides, I know if anything happens to him, you'd deal with it."

I dropped my cigarette and stomped it out.

"Come on, let's get to class."

As we were walking, I thought about what Jack said. I would rather have him by my side and I would do something if anything happened to him. But there's still a voice in my head saying don't drag him into my kind of life. I told myself to stop thinking about this and just get to class. I'll figure this out later.

(A/N Ok, first chapter done. Hope you enjoyed it. I'm not 100% sure on what my update schedule will look like because I have school. But I promise I will update as soon as I can. Have a good day. 😁)
