3rd Person POV

5 days later

Shao Fei is sitting in Tang Yi's bedroom in a robe, leaning against the headboard. As he's waiting for Tang Yi to get out of the shower, he thinks about all the past events. After Li Zhen's final checkup, she was approved to leave the hospital. Tang Guo Dong offered them rooms in his home and provided everything they needed and protection whenever they needed to go out in public. On the first day in the house, Shao Fei felt a little awkward but being with Tang Yi felt nice. But he couldn't shake the thought of him seeing Tang Yi talking to his father on the hospital roof.

Shao Fei was so lost in thought that he didn't notice Tang Yi walking out the bathroom in a robe towel in hand drying his hair. Tang Yi noticed the distant look in his eyes.

"Shao Fei?"

Shao Fei snapped out of his thoughts and looked towards Tang Yi surprised.

"Oh, Tang Yi. I didn't notice you."

"Are you ok? You seemed lost in thought."

Shao Fei nodded his head, "Yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking about everything."

Tang Yi nodded and sat beside him, "Yeah I get it. After everything that happened, knowing what happened between our parents, it's a lot to take in."

"Yeah, now I'm here. How long do you think I have to stay here?"

"Why? Are you getting tired of me already?" Tang Yi said in a teasing tone.

"No, it's not like that. I actually enjoy spending more time with you." Shao Fei said quickly.

Tang Yi chuckles and took Shao Fei's hand, "Calm down, I was just joking."

They both started laughing. After a few minutes, they calmed down and fell into a comfortable silence. Shao Fei then remembered he needed to ask Tang Yi something.

"Tang Yi?"

Tang Yi looked at Shao Fei, "Yes?"

"Do you remember our promise? About not keeping secrets?"

Tang Yi nodded his head.

"Well at the hospital, before we talked, I went to the roof and saw you and your dad talking. When he left, you looked lost in thought and I was worried for you. What were you two talking about?"

Tang Yi goes quiet, unsure if he should tell him. Shao Fei moves closer to Tang Yi and held his hand.

"Tang Yi, are you ok? What were you two talking about? Was it bad?"

Tang Yi squeezed his hand in reassurance, "No, it wasn't bad. I was just surprised with what he told me."

"What did he say?"

Tang Yi looked straight at Shao Fei, he said he didn't want to do this business anymore. He wanted to go legit."

Shao Fei looks at him surprised. "Really? Is this true."

Tang Yi nodded. "I guess after everything he's been through, he's finally reached his limit. I know how this kind of life is like. I was practically born into this. I never understood why he would stay in this kind of business. Your dad wasn't the first person close to him that he lost."

Shao Fei looked at him surprised. "Was there someone else he lost?"

Tang Yi didn't respond. He instead took Shao Fei's hand and caressed it, lost in thought. Shao Fei could see the sad look in his eyes and placed his other hand on top of Tang Yi's and squeezed it in reassurance.

"You don't have to tell me if you're not ready. I can wait until you are."

They both sit in a comfortable silence for a moment.

"When I was 4 years old, I saw my mom die in front of me."

Shao Fei is shocked by the sudden reveal but stays quiet. Tang Yi takes a deep breath before explaining the story of what happened that night.

TW: Mentions of blood and gunshots

A 4-year-old Tang Yi wakes up in the middle of the night and leaves his room quietly as he heads downstairs towards the kitchen. Suddenly he hears glass breaking and, in a panic, he runs in the living room and hides behind the couch. As he's hiding, he carefully peaks around the couch and sees a man in a ski mask, holding a gun and slowly walking around. As terrified as he was, Tang Yi tried his best to keep quiet and stay hidden.

Suddenly he hears another set of footsteps coming down the stairs. The man in the ski mask quickly hides out of sight. Tang Yi could see that it was his mother who was looking around confused. She slowly walks into the room, looking around.

The man suddenly comes out of hiding and raises his gun towards her. She lets out a scream before gunshots are made and she collapses to the ground.

Tang Yi stays in his hiding spot, staring in shock at the sight of his mother's bloody body. She slowly turns her head and makes eye contact with a terrified Tang Yi. She indirectly motions to him to stay put as Tang Yi puts a hand over his mouth to contain his sobs.

The man in the ski mask starts to run when he hears shouts and footsteps. Tang Guo Dong and a group of bodyguard rush downstairs to see the body of Tang Yi's mom. Tang Guo Dong drops to his knees and cradles his wife's body. He shouts to the other bodyguards to go after the man in the mask. A few of them rush out of the room.

Tang Yi slowly comes out of his hiding spot, his eyes fixed on his mother's body and tears falling down his face. Tang Guo Dong's eyes fill with horror as he sees Tang Yi. He orders another guard to take Tang Yi to his room. The bodyguard takes him, making sure to cover his eyes as they head upstairs. Tang Yi starts crying and begging to be let go, wanting to see his mom.

Flashback Ends

Tears fall out of Tang Yi eyes as the memories come back to him. Shao Fei brings his hand to his face and wipes them away. Tang Yi takes a deep breath and holds Shao Fei's hand before continuing.

"The man who killed her was caught. I don't know the details of what happened to him, but I assume he was killed. I later found out that he planned to kill my mom, my dad, and myself. He was able to get into the house because someone from the inside was helping him. My dad eventually found out who it was and they were punished."

Shao Fei takes both of Tang Yi's hands and caresses them.

"I'm sorry. I probably opened an old wound, didn't I?"

Tang Yi puts his head on Shao Fei's shoulder, "It's alright. I've never talked about this to anyone. I feel comfortable telling you about this."

Shao Fei holds him close and starts stroking Tang Yi's hair.

"There's also another mole now. My dad said his next course of action is to track down Lhong and find out who it is. I'm going to help him as well."

Shao Fei looks at him surprised.

"You have another mole now. Is it really safe to be here?"

Tang Yi raises his head and looks at Shao Fei. He places his hand on his cheek and kisses him on his forehead.

"You don't have to worry about that. We already have a plan about that. I promise that I won't let anything happen to you again. You trust me, right?"

Shao Fei smiles and kisses Tang Yi's forehead. "Yeah, I trust you."

"Come on, we should get dressed." Tang Yi says and gets up from the bed.

As they get changed, Tang Yi notices that Shao Fei is looking at him.

"Do you like what you see." Tang Yi said, teasing Shao Fei.

"Yes, I do." Shao Fei says confidently.

Tang Yi looks over at him and grins, "I didn't know that you were so bold Shao Fei."

Shao Fei rolls his eyes. "Just get dressed already."

They both get dressed and crawl into bed. Shao Fei laid his head on Tang Yi's chest and Tang Yi wrapped his arm around him as they start to fall asleep.

Li Zhen peeks into the room and sees the two asleep in each other's arms. She smiles to herself and silently closes the door and heads back to her room.
