The sky boomed and screeched as thunder tolls clashed together in an ominous howl, the continuous roar of wind and rain sounding like the song of a monster screaming constantly in Evergreen's ears. Rain lashed down against her skin in great freezing torrents, numbing her tender skin until the rain no longer felt cold, but like tiny steel pins drilling into her. Huge gusts of wind sucked Evergreen and her companions forward and deeper into the storm front despite their great struggles to escape the winds.
"Natsu, can you tell.... which way to go?" Mirajane yelled, even with the power of her mighty demon wings she had trouble staying aloft in a single place.
Natsu began to open his mouth when a large bolt of lighting flashed down, the blasting roar of the lighting aimed directly at Bickslow's head clad in his metal helm. Crying out Laxus swooped in and absorbed the lightning. With his back arching from absorbing so much raw power, the lightning dragon slayer reached forward and ripped off Bickslow's metal helm and flung it far away just as another bolt of lightning punched down and obliterated the feathered helm.
"Oh my god, thanks dude" Bickslow yelled at Laxus while swerving side to side in the wind.
"NATSU" Laxus roared "WHICH WAY?"
Dread tied knots in Evergreen's stomach as Natsu twisted and turned desperately, Happy's angelic wings struggling to keep Natsu in the air as the wind tried to blow them into oblivion. Wiping the moister from her drenched face, Evergreen placed her glasses in between her bra and dress, deeming them useless in this weather.
"THERE" Natsu bellowed, his hand gesturing wildly to the distant and dark clouds, further inside the belly of the storm.
"ARE YOU CRAZY" Evergreen called her eyes widening worriedly "WE WILL NEVER GET OUT OF THERE ALIVE" Great bolts of lighting flashed down in among those clouds, some so immense that it looked like pure white rods as thick as houses were being flung down by the gods.
"NO WAIT. THERE IS A NARROW GAP BETWEEN THOSE CLOUDS AND A HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM-" Wendy began.
"WENDY SPEAK NORMALLY" Laxus cried "CAN WE GET THROUGH IT OR NOT?!"
Evergreen watched Wendy as the rain and wind drilled so heavily into her body, the small girls features only briefly looking back at the darkest clouds before calling.
"YES WE CAN DO IT IF WE GO NOW!"
Evergreen was rushed forward as Wendy grabbed her hand, sky dragon magic lighting up around her as Wendy enhanced the strength of Evergreen's wings and those of her partners. Evergreen felt Wendy's cold fingers grip tighter into her arm as she refused to let go. Thank god she isn't letting go, I feel as if I'm a leaf caught in a storm despite my stronger wings Evergreen thought watching in awe as Wendy absorbed an entire gust of wind just as it began to push her and her team a little too far.
Every second Evergreen strained in the storm felt like an hour as everyone sluggishly strained forward, the winds battering them from all directions as they persisted forward. The fairy wings that had saved Evergreen's life on so many jobs and the lives of other weathered as they beat into the untrustworthy
air. With each stroke it felt as if her wings were going to fall off, and that she would plummet hundreds of feet down into the muddy and storm ridden field below. In all of the jobs I've been on and in all of the storms I've been in I've never felt as helpless as this. I don't know how much more I can take Evergreen thought as her breaths were ripped away from her.
"LOOK OUT" Laxus yelled.
But his call was seconds too late.
One of the biggest lightning bolts flashed down from the roof of the clouds, and Evergreen could tell in the brief seconds that she saw it that it would put even Laxus's thunder palace to shame. The share vastness of it was unbelievable. It was twice the width of the guild hall and its length was immeasurable as it ripped from the sky. Thin webs of purple laced up the sides of it like the nest of a trapper spider, the thin strings standing out stark in their gray surroundings. And it oddly reminded her of the huge Lacrima crystals that she, Elfman and Lisanna had seen in Altay. Evergreen saw all of this in a second. The most powerful noise howled from the sky like the scream of a banshee as an immense shock wave rolled over Evergreen as the lightning bolt missed her left side by inches. But despite her near miss with death, static electricity racked through her body, Wendy's and Carla's as the lightning passed. Evergreen's nerves felt as if they were on fire, from just being so close to that monster of a lightning bolt her eye lids slammed shut as she twitched in mid air her wings beginning to falter. Come on Evergreen you've felt lightning strikes many times before. Snap out of it. Forcing her eyes open Evergreen forced her glitching hands to move and grabbed hold of Wendy's shoulder before she and Carla could drop from the air. Pain gouged into Evergreens head as she forced herself to move forwards her wings moving in untimely movements causing her to swerve left and right.
