"Hey" a voice hummed next to Elfman's ear.

"Elfman. Elfman?" Elfman swallowed and turned his head away from the voice. A hand gripped his forearm and gently shook it, cajoling him awake. Elfman blinked and winced at the evening light that blazed through the his cabin's window.

"That's it. Come on, wake up" Evergreen's hand touched his jaw and Elfman winced as it throbbed from her touch.
"Sorry. I forgot that it is sore" Evergreen withdrew her hand and Elfman opened his eyes and followed the length of her arm up to her face.

"You had me worried, you idiot. It took me five minutes to wake you up this time" she said. Elfman blinked wearily and slowly sat up and winced as his body screamed nope and he flopped back down.

"Do you remember anything?" Evergreen asked and blinked at him with eyes hiding her concern.

"I remember my face being kicked in and you and Mira talking to me. Then I blacked out" Elfman pondered his words for a second. "I think that you woke me up a few times. Right?".

"Yeah I did" Evergreen sighed in relief. "But you hardly responded then and just blinked at the ceiling. It was really scary".

"Oh sorry" Elfman replied and blinked in pain. He remembered vague impressions of wakefulness but he couldn't be sure from his aching body. His body was throbbing with pain so much that his teeth even throbbed and he tried not to move but it had little effect."Damn I really pissed Laxus off didn't I" Elfman tried jokingly.

Evergreen looked down and at her hands her face shadowed.

"Hey come on. This isn't your fault" Elfman brushed his fingers against her own for a second before it collapsed in pain.

"You should've just let him yell at me. And not be some chivalrous asshole. Because now you are badly hurt again and we are so close to home" Evergreen glared at him to hide her guilt and concern.

"I couldn't let him do that. Especially not when he was like that. And not when he doesn't know all the facts" Elfman responded and raised his eyebrow pointedly at the last sentence.

"He never would've hurt me" Evergreen glared at him and sat on the bed.

Elfman looked at her and distinctly remembered Freed's wounds from Laxus when he tried to take over the guild.
"Ever...How do you know that? The man is unpredictable. He has attacked Freed and Levy" Elfman hated to do this to her but it is true.

"He is family!" Ever stood up and bit her lip to stop herself from hearing his logic.

"I know, I'm sorry. But I couldn't risk it" Elfman replied but Ever didn't move.
"Has he said something to you?".

"No...He is in his cabin with Freed" Evergreen bit off and collapsed on the bed again her face in her hands.

"Oh..." Elfman clenched his hand to stop himself writing that he needs to apologize to her. Then another piece of information came to mind. A piece that scared him greatly.
"Ever-".

"I know what you are going to say and honestly don't" Ever growled and paced the room her eyes blazing at him. "I shouldn't have come. I should've made sure I stayed safe. I should've thought of myself and the baby. But you know what!".

"Ever-" Elfman mouthed.

"You know what. I fucking couldn't stay!" Evergreen hissed and rushed up to him so she was hovering above him. "I could feel my magic beginning to drain every day. But I couldn't stay. I couldn't stay and and sit by knowing that you were in HUGE trouble" Evergreen threw her arms out. "Knowing that man is still around and hurting" Evergreen voice hitched. "H-hurting the people I love. I had a feeling I was pregnant at the very beginning but I couldn't and I wouldn't just sit by and wait patiently for y-you to come home. I couldn't!" Evergreen hissed and immediately turned around and whimpered into her hand.
