Evergreen snuggled up to Elfman's toasty body on the cool beach. The stupor of sex was slowly leaving her and leaning her head up and against Elfman's upright chest, she could tell the stupor had left him long ago. Blinking, Evergreen look out to sea with him and wrapped her jacket around her tighter. She had barely had the energy to put clothes on, but she and Elfman silently agreed it was probably the best thing to do in case another couple came down here. It was a resort after all. Sighing in the cool air, Evergreen hardly felt her feet being dragged slightly back and forth in surf; which really attested about how excellent the night had been so far. But she felt a little bit sad. I knew sex would only be a temporary relief for him. But I hoped it wouldn't wear off this fast Evergreen thought and looked up at Elfman's face. His eyes looked hollow and broken as they stared blankly out to sea, with shadows cutting across his more refined face and his longer hair, he looked much different and honestly much more dangerous. Twisting around and pulling her hands up, Evergreen gently ran her fingers up and down his shoulders and pressed her fingers down cautiously into the incredibly sore tissue right next to his shoulder blades. Elfman breathed a husky sigh and looked at her. A large forearm wrapped around her waist and pulled her on top of his lap and held her. Leaning her face against his chest Evergreen continued to massage his shoulders.
"Your shoulders..." Evergreen said and grazed her fingers over the bruised skin.
"Its not that bad" Elfman replied in the sand, but he refused to meet her gaze.
"Don't lie to me" Evergreen said her voice gentle but her eyes firm. That is my fault really. I got him to...Over use them Evergreen thought and let her whole hand graze over the dark purple skin of his shoulders. Elfman's blue eyes locked with hers and didn't leave and his fingers began stroking up and down her back as well. The moon and star light illuminated the beach and Evergreen couldn't help but notice how much he had changed again, and something tugged painfully in her heart. She missed her man, and she could see him in Elfman's eyes, just below the surface of his new armor, and he looked almost scared and he looked very hurt. And despite the fact it hurt Evergreen to see him like this, it also showed how wonderful he is and how beautiful he was and is now.
"You are beautiful" Evergreen whispered her thoughts and grazed the tip of her fingers over his brow. Elfman snorted with disbelief and turned his face away.
"Don't hide your face" Evergreen said, angry because he didn't believe that himself. But he still didn't look at her. Taking his face in one hand Evergreen forced him to look at her. "Don't you dare think you are anything but beautiful. You are perfect and I love you. You know I only accept perfection" her voice was harsh but her face was soft.
Elfman reached a hand out and drew a finger through the sand. "I think you are beautiful, Ever. And you are the first person to ever call me beautiful" Elfman blushed fiercely at the end and bit his lip with embarrassment. "But now that I can see again, its like...." Elfman trailed off and tried to find the right words. "I find nothing in this world not beautiful, and that I should've taken the time to look at these things more" Elfman indicated to the sea and sky before him and then turned to Ever and rubbed his thumb up and down her face once before retracting it.
Evergreen felt her heart soften from his lovely words and wrapped her arms around his ribs and buried her face in his chest. The sand next to her made scuffing noises and a large hand gently picked her face up by her chin so she could look at him. Turning to the sand Evergreen watched Elfman finish his sentence.
"Don't hide your face"
Evergreen turned and looked back at him and hugged him tighter, but kept her eyes on his. Maybe...Maybe now is a good time to tell him.
"So....everything is beautiful?" She asked and felt nerves pinch her stomach. Elfman's face nodded at her and continued stroking her back.
"Even t-things that are unexpected and make you a bit scared" Evergreen didn't want to call their baby a thing, but the rest of what she said was the truth. Would I make a good parent? Evergreen thought and blinked with big eyes up at Elfman's face searchingly. Elfman's face blinked down at her confusedly and looked to the sand.
