Sounds slowly made their way to Evergreen's ears and it took her more minutes than her sluggish brain could count to identify them. The beautiful coos of birds sang outside the window, where sunlight glowed through the glass and tinted Evergreen's eyelids. There was other noises too. She heard the gentle creak of adjusting weight on wood, the slight wind that whispered through the open sliding door. And the even and smooth huff of breathing. Evergreen grunted her own breathing tight as pictures of memories slowly resurfaced. A body with bright purple eyes tumbling off and into a dark pit, Evergreen jolted as she remembered who that person was. He died... Evergreen thought as shock worked its way through her system. Tears welled up in Evergreen's eyes and delicately slid down her cheeks, pulling up her newly un-broken hand the young woman fiercely rubbed at her eyes to dry them. Why are you crying dammit she thought, he was never a father to you so stop crying for gods sake. But still his face appeared in her mind and a tightness built up in her chest. This is not like the time mother died....No not at all. Then, I had felt her love and I knew I would not feel it again, this time....this time it is like I am grieving for something I never had. Swallowing hard Evergreen allowed a weak smile to surface, so that was all he was good for huh. Grieving for something I never had. Sighing Evergreen dismissed her father from her heart and mind for now. Closing her eyes, small patches of memory stumbled drunkenly back into place: the running down the tunnel, the fight, Christopher appearing and finally... Elfman. A gasp chocked in her throat and Evergreen sat bolt right up, her eyes wide as she recognized the smooth and heavy breathing next to her. Turning her head slowly, Evergreen's eyes widened further when they rested on the heavily bandaged man sleeping next to her.
"Elfman" stammered Evergreen, her hand shaking when she reached out to close the distance between the two. Her hand froze over his face and shivered there, unable to move. Please tell me this isn't a dream Evergreen thought and allowed her hand to gently touch his cheek. Warm flesh heated the tips of her fingers and sent a electric shock down Evergreen's spine that raised goose bumps on her fair skin. Her heart lurching in her chest, Evergreen deliberately suppressed any sound that would've made any noise and leaned down. As she leaned down she felt a heavy weight on her hip but ignored it. Evergreen closed her fingers over Elfman's jaw, ignoring the heavy stubble that coated his lower face and leaned down so that her body was pressed against his own. Only now did she allow any noise to pass her lips. The tightness in her chest screwed up tighter as a shaky whimper filled the silence and she pressed her face into his neck, right over his guild mark. Her hands moved up again and touched the side of his face that had bandages wrapped around his broken cheek bone, obscuring his long scar down his face. Flicking her eyelids open, Evergreen patted out all the moister in her eyes and cast her vision down his bare torso that was randomly covered in the same thick gauze bandages. All the green ugly webs of poison in his body was gone as was any visible signs of his internal damage, but Evergreen could tell that he was still in pain from his pinched frown on his face. "Elfman" Evergreen whispered again and her fingers brushed up the side of her head and pushed his head to the side, so his forehead was pressed up against her own. This time she let the tears come and a steady set of tears dripped down her face and streaked Elfman's tanned one. Reaching down, Evergreen picked up his large rough hand in her small smooth on and pressed it against her lower stomach. Warmth blossomed in that spot as Elfman's warm hand pressed against the cool material of her white long sleeved shirt, that she had no memory of putting on. Evergreen sighed opened her eyes a fraction. "Are you going to wake up for me?" Evergreen murmured. She felt so relieved to have him back in her arms, and it felt so good to know he was alive and safe, but she wanted him in this world with her, awake. As if her prayers were answered there was a consistent tap of feet on wood before the stopped outside her door. Reluctantly sitting up, Evergreen delicately removed Elfman's hand from her stomach and gripped it in her own.
