The large inferno blazed with such intensity it overshadowed the brilliance of the rising sun, and muted the shouts and screams of terror of the people standing next to it.
"Elfman!" screamed Evergreen, tears drying on her cheeks from the heat just as easily as they were flooded again. "NO!" Evergreen struggled forward desperately on the sand, biting her lip deeply until she drew blood when her bleeding and broken hip screamed in pain. Sobbing, Evergreen's head collapsed to the ground her hands still stretching forward as the misery and pain crumpled her weak body against the sand that was slowly turning dark brown from the blood that flowed beneath her. No.... Evergreen thought despairingly, not noticing Mirajane abandoning her and rushing to the bonfire whose source was her brother, her own voice screaming. Then something unusual burbled in the air. Barely looking up, Evergreen saw through her cracked and filthy glasses, Natsu standing stoically in the middle of the blaze, his hands clasping something down as he sucked in an almighty breath. Evergreen's eyes widened with the last of her flickering hope when the air sucked and popped and the blindingly bright flames raced towards Natsu and disappeared down his throat, his stomach expanding and swelling as the flames were devoured. The flames ripped away and became smaller and smaller, until a dark and tall silhouette could be seen. Digging his feet deeper into the sand, Natsu snarled and whipped his head up tearing away the last of the flames and into his stomach, killing the fire. Breathing in a deep breath of clean air, Natsu opened his eyes and with a horrified yelp dropped Elfman's shoulders and let him collapse into the sand.
"Jesus Christ!" Christopher gasped, stepping towards the unconscious man collapsed on the shiny glassy ground. His hands trembled as he looked at the extent of the damage before he was shoved aside by Mirajane her Satan soul form glowing and fading revealing her true human form.
"Oh god Elfman!!" Mirajane yelled gently picking up his head and placing it on her lap "he had so many horrible things done to him" Mirajane yelled out to the world and her deadly quiet team as she rushed. Fighting back tears, Mirajane pressed her fingers into Elfman's neck and searched desperately for a pulse, trying to ignore his terrible and life threatening wounds for the time. "Come on, come on" Mirajane yelled her hands moving frantically, tears now dripping down her face as people moved forward to help her, their own faces, even Laxus's pale with the vile injuries they saw. Fighting for breath Mirajane was about to move her hand away and search his chest for a heart beat just as a pulse fluttered weakly against her skin. "He's alive" Mirajane sobbed quietly and looked around for Wendy. "Wendy help him!" Mira said her eyes wide and frantic.
"Mira" yelled Evergreen, trying to drag herself across the sand towards her team. "Is he alive?" She yelled a small blood trail dragging on the sand as she crawled forward, her arms exhausted.
"Oh Evergreen" Mira breathed looking between Ever and Elfman in her arms, guilt poisoning her when she realized she had just left Evergreen hurt and terrified by herself. "He's alive" Mirajane yelled relief obvious in her voice. But he is not out of the woods yet...not by a long shot Mirajane thought anxiety twisting her innards as Wendy dropped down next to her.
The tension dropped from Evergreen like a stone, her arm outstretched towards Elfman flopping to the ground with relief. "Please..." Evergreen began, her voice weak when a shadow dropped over her. Looking up, Evergreen saw the large form of Christopher loom over her before crouching down next to her, his face pale and his eyes wide from Elfman's wounds. Feeling arms scoop under her legs and gently rotate her, Evergreen withered in pain when Christopher pressed his hand on her excruciatingly broken hip.
"I'm sorry about this" Christopher said and firmly pressed down on her wound.
A harsh bark of pain roared out of Evergreen as her vision blackened and the heavy but soothing blanket of oblivion began to drape over her. No I need to see him Evergreen thought tears dripping down her cheeks as she tried to open her eyes and look for Elfman but sweet unconsciousness took her in it's arms.
