The Shadow Sholdier

It's been six years

„What the hell did you do Fury?" the guy in the suit asks.
„Please, Tony. I was surprised too."
I stare at the two men.
„Tony Stark." I say.
„Is that really her?" the blonde one asks and walks to me.
I still stare at him.
He looks worried.
Why do I get the feeling that I know him?
I couldn't.
„How did she get here?"
„Sit down, we'll explain the situation." Fury answers.
They both sit down.
„Nick, I have so many questions. That's- How did you-? She was gone!" Tony says.
„And she is gone. That's not Y/N. She's the Shadow Soldier." Fury answers.
I look at him.
„Do you recognise them?" he asks me.
„No..."
„Why did you say that so hesitatingly?"
He taps on the display again and a picture shows up. The blonde guy, a blonde woman and me with long her are on the photo.
I look at it.
„How about now?"
I lean forwards to look closer.
The three men look at me.
I glance to the blonde one again.
„I know you." I say. „And that woman too. But I don't know in which context."
„Nick, I'm still confused." Tony says. „Why can't she remember who Steve and Sharon are?"
Steve and Sharon.
„What happend to her? And who gave her that stupid name?"
I look mad at him.
„Oh I'm sorry."
Fury clears his throat.
„Y/N or rather the Shadow Soldier was captured by Hydra and has been brainwashed for six years."
They get quiet.
„I heard that a Soldier, he's called the Winter Soldier, could escape from Hydra. Two siblings made it out too and since I'm their best soldier, I thought I could easily escape. And I did. My mission was to kidnap Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and that was the best chance to get out of that hell and seek help."
„So youre meaning to tell us that you are not dangerous anymore?"
„I wouldn't sit here without handcuffs, if I wasn't dangerous. I could easily take you down but I won't, I'm trying to get help here."
„Wait wait wait. Bucky could remember me after 70 years of beeing brainwashed. How can she not when she was brainwashed for „only" six years?" Steve asks.
„Hydra made everything stricter when they escaped, they made sure noone could break out of there. They started to brainwash everyone twice a day, in the morning and the evening, not only after a mission." I explain.
My heart starts pounding faster.
„And they didn't put us into freezer when they didn't need us. We trained everyday with barely breaks. I was not Human, I'm a machine. I killed, kidnapped, tortured for them and I got brainwashed everytime after. I can't remember personal things but I remember every single person I've killed. Their screams, terrified expressions and the way I did it to them."
My eyes slowly fill with tears.
„I couldn't to this anymore."
I sob.
„I wanted to escape for a long time but I didn't get the chance to. Escaping from the base would be impossible, even for me. So I waited. And then I was told that I got another mission. I got brainwashed this morning and it didn't work. I could remember what I thought the minutes before being brainwashed. I acted like it worked and went to complete my mission. And now I sit here, can't remember a thing about the peoole ever I loved and nowhere to go."
I don't know if they have empathy for someone like me, but they all three look sad at me.
Steve puts his hand on my shoulder.
I don't like being touched but I think that's his way to comfort people.
It's quiet for some moments.
„I know this has been hard for you and it hurts more because we knew you before and still see you like that person, like Y/N." Fury says. „But it's good that you can recognise Steve. We're gonna work this out."
„Where is she gonna stay?" Tony asks.
Fury looks at him.
„You know, I thought.. now that it turned out she knows Steve, maybe she could stay at the Avenger-Tower." he answers.
Tony looks at him.
„She can't stay here Tony. It would be the best if she goes there. She knew all of the Avengers, at least Romanoff, Banner, Thor and Barton. Maybe it will bring back some of her memories."
„Sure." Steve says and smiles. „She can stay."
„Perfect." Fury says.
I look at Steve.
He winks.
I smile slightly.
„I don't wanna say that this is a bad idea but they will recognise her as Y/N and not Shadow Soldier. They'll think she's the same person that she was six years ago." Tony says.
„We can't tell Barnes that she's been captured by Hydra." Fury says.
„Barnes.." I say.
They look at me.
„James Buchachan Barnes, The Winter Soldier. Is he alive?"
„Yes."
„Mhm."
„How do you know his real name?" Steve asks.
„The guards that stood infront of my cell by Hydra always talked to eachother. And they often mentioned the Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Winter Soldier. They talked about it everyday, so I couldn't forget about it. He was the best. After I was two years captured by Hydra, he never came back. Since then I was the best. I didn't know what happend to him or if he even was alive."
„Wait, so you knew the Winter Soldier?" Tony asks.
„I wouldn't say knew, but I saw him once or twice. We didn't talk, hadn't even eyecontact. I looked at him. He has a metal arm, how could you not look at him?" I answer.
„Ok, good."
„Gentlemen and my Ladie, I gotta work on this. I'll find out more about it. But for now we cleared everything, I'll call you Tony." Fury says.
„Wait one thing, what are we gonna tell the others?" Steve asks.
„We won't tell anyone that she's a experiment from Hydra. She's Y/N Y/L, S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent." Fury answers.
„And she just randomly showed up after beeing gone for six years? Come on, we need to tell more! How did she got her powers and why she showed up again." Tony says. „Any ideas?"
„She couldn't even remember her own name." Fury says.
„I don't have the personality that you guys apparently knew." I say.
„That's a problem too." he says.
Tony sighs.
„Everythigs possible these days and noone really knows why she was gone. So how about we tell them that she was gone for six years because she faked her own death to ascertain undercover but she also experimented. And an experiment went wrong, she lost her memory and obtained her powers." Steve says.
„Will they believe it?" Tony asks.
„Probably, makes sense to me." Fury answers.
„Good."
Steve and Tony stand up and walk to the door.
Fury and I stand up too. He walks to me and says: „You can trust them, all of them. They'll be nice to you."
„Thank you." I say.
„You coming? I don't have all day... I do. But still, come on." Tony says.
I walk to them.
„We need to get you different clothes. Or is the Hydra logo only on this vest?"
I look down at myself.
I take the vest off and throw it in the trash can. I ripp off the logo on my upper arm.
Everything in silence.
„You got bandages?"
„Yeah here." Fury says and takes out a first aid kit.
I take a bandage and bind it around my upper arm.
„Now we can go." I say and walk to the door.
They all look at me.
Steve opens the door.
„After you." he says.
Tony and I walk through the door, Steve follows us.
