-two days later-
you were walking around in stohess district, with jean by your side. a hat in your head, a grey coat around your body and a news paper in hand. you looked at the paper that was passed to everyone around, before you raised your head to meet jean's eyes.
he looked at you and sighed, before he lowered his hat to his face.
"i was prepared to die inside a titan's stomach, but to think a bunch of angry humans are going to lop my head off..."
"it hasn't come to that yet, jean" you said, loud enough for him to hear.
you distanced yourselves from the people in town and walked towards the stables everyone else was. jean gave his paper to armin and you gave it to sasha. she thanked you as she looked through it. mikasa looked at you, but you ignored her and sat by jean's side.
you haven't talked in two days, and it was for the best. you were obeying levi's orders and they didn't include anything like team up with mikasa or talk with mikasa. you only had to keep your personal feelings about eren out of the way, and save him from the danger he was in.
at least you were still allowed to protect him.
"captain levi thinks he can use violence to make people do as he says. just like what he did to historia and y/n!" connie said, snapping you out of your thoughts.
"yet, he acted so humble with the reeves company! threatening historia when she was practically a husk of her usual self... he probably did that to make her easier to control once she becomes queen!" sasha commented.
"and y/n... well, we don't really know what happened then, but he sure hit her and made her stay away from eren" she added, looking at you sympathetically.
everyone in the levi squad had accepted the fact that you and eren had a secret relationship, and didn't even mind it after the surprise washed over them. well... everyone except levi and mikasa.
sasha was the first one to reach out to you and treat your bruised cheek. she didn't pressure you to tell her what happened back in the room with levi, because she knew that it was bad- only by looking at your face.
"...in any case..." jean started, clenching his fist.
"i didn't join the survey corps to become part of a violent gang. what i did... was dedicate my heart to saving humanity" he continued.
