[June 2nd]

Being in love is taking me to a very high level of slowness. I feel my eyes droop, I want to smile, and I'm looking forward to seeing her. I imagine hugging her and kissing her. I can't concentrate on anything. I've felt doped with love since the day we fell.

Three seconds, maybe more, was enough while she was still on top of me. Chae won stood up and raised her hand to me, but the trickle of blood that ran from the corner of her mouth triggered reactions throughout my body.

Heart racing and heat, that's what I felt. Stunned, I ran.

However, that same night, I met her for a brief moment in the dormitory hallway. I thought I could avoid talking to her for fear of being asked why I ran. But when I entered the room, I noticed a few things out of place. Her perfume is stuck to a part of the room.

She stole a cell phone. It's the kind of thing I'm still trying to interpret.

''Ji-hye sent a message for you to call her,'' says Da-hye, sitting next to me at the cafeteria table. Then she opens a can of juice and drinks it.

''I thought she would be back this week,'' I say.

''Well... I discovered that her whole leg is full of those irons... The platinum type, which are used to glue bones together.''

''Was it an external fracture?''

''Yes.''

''How did this happen?''

'' You do not know?''

''I don't.''

''Ji-hye said she fell down the stairs,'' Da-hye says, looking a little thoughtful. ''I think she only comes back after the holidays because how is she going to get around here? There is no ramp for wheelchair users.''

''I'm going to call her now.'' I leave the chopsticks in the bowl of ramen, put my hand in the front pocket of my pants, take out my cell phone, slide my finger on the screen, and call Ji-hye.

''Is she answering?''

''No,'' I say in a worried voice
while I make another call.

''It's very rude of you to leave her aside to be with Chae won,'' Da-hye says, resting her elbows on the table, interlacing her fingers.

''It's so strange that they're not here...'' I focus on the tables in the somewhat empty cafeteria. It's already dinner time. I don't see Mio, Sana, or Chae, and my stomach drops at the thought of the three of them hanging out together.

I give up calling Ji-hye and put my cell phone in my pants pocket. ''Did you see if Chae won went out with Sana?''

''I saw them talking in the hallway, and I went to pray the rosary. But that was yesterday.''

'Oh yeah!''

Around six in the afternoon, Da-hye goes to the seminary to pray the rosary. Around six in the afternoon, I was taking a shower. Se-yeon was practicing ciphers in our bedroom. As soon as I finished showering, I changed and went downstairs, hoping to see Chae won. I haven't seen her all day. I called, but no, she didn't answer. I don't know if she's avoiding me. Just thinking about it makes me feel bad.

The day had a strange ending.

''Could it be that after I went to the bedroom, Sana and she left the dormitory?''

''I don't think Chae won even left the bedroom to eat, unnie.''

''In the bedroom?''

''Yes!''
