Today was Sunday morning and the store opened at 10am.

Eleanor had been itching to use the studio on the second floor since she started working there, so the brunette got up at her usual time, 6am, had her tea and toast with the sunrise, showered, dried and curled her hair before changing into her blue mom jeans, a black thin-strapped top and an oversized white cardigan that fell slightly off her shoulder and floated down past her knees. She finished the outfit with her doc martens, a couple of gold rings, and her precious, tiny gold padlock necklace which was a gift from Chase on her 18th birthday, a day she wished she could erase.

"Hello mum are you home?" Eleanor called out but was met with a wall of silence.

Panic rushed through her chest, she quickly scanned the downstairs rooms, empty wine bottles scattered on every surface.

"mum?" she shouted, repeating each time with more desperation.

Throwing open the bedroom door there she was, laid unconscious on the floor. Eleanor shook her mum but with no response. She desperately yanked her phone out her pocket, ringing the emergency services. As soon as they had arrived she texted Chase.

The haunting sound of beeping machines, the unforgiving smell of sterile equipment, the humming noise of people in pain overwhelmed her senses causing her knee to bounce up and down uncontrollably whilst she chewed relentlessly on her chipped black nails.

A soothing hand rested gently on her knee which caused her to jump.

"Hey, it's just me I got you a tea" her new best friend spoke softly and passed her a paper cup. It was weird how someone you only met three months ago could mean so much to you.

"Thanks, sorry I'm just so-" she muttered, eyes watering.

"Ellie stop, do not say sorry for anything, we will get through this together" he reassured her and took her shaking hand in his.

After what felt like eternity, the doctor came and repeated the same diagnosis and thoughts as the ten other doctors before him.

I already know, my mum is an alcoholic.

After a long couple of hours, Eleanor's sister met them at the hospital and agreed to look after their mum as she lived closer to home, and Eleanor had just started university three months back.

Eleanor and Chase went back to their student accommodation and went to sleep- or so Eleanor tried, her birthday ruined.

Early the next morning, Chase snuck out and went to the closest shopping centre and headed straight for the jewelry store. He scanned the entire store trying to find the perfect item.
