Stop being so scared of the unknown and start being more scared of never knowing.

The truth always comes out. One way or another.

Perfection is the reason why most relationships fail.

Human beings are flawed, so massively flawed. Mistakes are at the very foundations of learning. In order to acquire things like knowledge and skill, we must start with nothing, we must build and improve, we must learn from difficulty and overcome adversity and error. That's just a part of life.

So why, if life is built in this manner, do people still try to harbor perfection.

Why do they set out on an impossible quest for sublimity?

Luke had tried to hide this and so many other things from a woman who just wanted to see him, the real him, flaws and broken parts. A woman who understood that these were part of the puzzle and would help to find the missing pieces.

It had been a rough time for Luke dealing with the sudden and unwanted emergence of his father. The bastard hadn't even physically turned up either. Like always, he slyly found a way to forcefully worm himself back into his son's life.

From the moment his father saw him as nothing more than a money pot, he selfishly tore Luke's life apart and rinsed him of everything he had.

And after everything that Luke went through with his father, if Luke could put into words the aching feeling in his chest, he would scream, scream at the top of his lungs:

I miss the father I never had.

And if he could just reach out, put the past behind him and apologize...who was he kidding, Luke wouldn't even require an apology. All he wants...all he's ever needed was his father.

There's no amount heavy enough to describe the weight of that loss. But for tonight, and in light of Eleanor finding out the truth and reacting to it like she did, he slept easier.

Eleanor however found sleep difficult. Her mind couldn't quite rest. She was angry at his family, furious even. She wanted to reach out to them to give them a piece of her mind, tell them what an incredible, caring and talented man Luke is and how they are missing out on being a part of his precious life.

She couldn't imagine a more painful thing, a life without Luke Hemmings, it seemed like the worst thing in the world.

***

The morning came and the pinkness around his eyes had remained. Eleanor had woken up some time ago. She wasn't sure exactly when, but she wasn't mad, even if her sleep was short and interrupted. Somehow she had ended up on her back with a sleepy Lu nestled on her shoulder and her arms wrapped around him. Having him pressed onto her body was her favorite feeling in the world.
