Family doesn't just have to be the people you were born to or grew up with. Family doesn't even have to share the same name, let alone blood.
Family can be someone who shows up and not just when you need it. Someone who is constantly committing to you.
Eleanor and Luke were both learning this now more than ever before. As they sat around the table playing games with Chase's family on Christmas Eve, they both felt the radiating warmth of feeling like they were at home.
Eleanor was teamed up with Chase, Charles and Julie were a team as were Sofia and Jess and finally Luke and Cameron.
Seeing this playful side of Luke made her weak. His smile melted her completely and it was probably one of the reasons why she and Chase were currently losing at pictionary(which was insane when you consider her artistic ability).
She didn't mind though, she was too content to care. Everyone had Christmas jumpers on, Christmas music was playing, they had a whole buffet of delicious home cooked snacks from Julie and the whole place was so wholesome she just didn't want to leave or wake up from this dream.
Chase wrapped an arm around her and pulled her close. "You look so happy Ellie," he kissed her temple as they paused from the board game.
Eleanor watched as Cameron pulled Luke upstairs so that he could show him his collectables.
She relaxed against him, "Can we freeze this moment forever?" She smiled.
Eleanor helped Julie, Jess and Sofia to tidy up the table and clear away the food as the boys played video games.
Julie peered over at her hands and she noticed the sparkle of the ring. It wasn't on the correct finger but it looked important.
"A promise ring," Eleanor explained as she twisted it around.
"It's very pretty, he seems like a lovely young man."
Eleanor's heart skipped a beat, she loved people complimenting him. "I think Sofia has a little crush on your man," Jess laughed as she pointed at Sofia's blushed cheeks.
They all turned to look at Sofia, "I do not!" She protested.
Eleanor giggled at her sweet innocence and bright crimson cheeks.
Chase erupted into the room fuming that he had lost another game, again. "I hate Mario Kart!" He sulked, Jess laughing at his childish outburst.
"Mario kart isn't festive, how about a Christmas film?" Julie suggested, "I think The Polar Express is on TV at eight, I can make us all some hot chocolates?"
Chase's eyes lit up and did his father's as he entered the room.
"I'll help you dear," Charles smiled as he counted the correct amount of mugs out.
